The reason you confused me is because you said "Only fixed, not neutered". However, I said she was spayed, meaning all of her reproductive organs were removed. "Neutered" applies only to male dogs. The terminology you used was in fact, not what you meant by it..
Yeah I saw that reply and had no idea what they were talking about so I just ignored it lol. That may be a bit rude of me but I honestly didn't know how to reply
I know right! Like when people get a Malamute while living in Arizona, or get a Betta fish when they only have a half gallon tank to keep them in!
Especially when they get that "cute little, calm greyhound puppy" and get so upset when the puppy won't stop tearing stuff up in their studio...
For real!
Every time I get a new breed or species of animal, I do extensive research BEFORE I get them so I know exactly what I'm getting into. Most people will just see some kind of cute animal in a pet shop and decide they want it, and get upset when their total lack of knowledge and training...
Exactly! Some people don't deserve dogs in the slightest. They just don't want to put any effort into training, they just want a loveable and obedient puppy and take the laziest way possible to get it.
I agree with that, there are some situations where they are necessary, such as when the situation would cause much more harm to the dog or others than what a SMALL shock would. I don't think there should even be a setting that would cause such burns!
Some people use them when they are too lazy...
I have no clue! The spot the dog was in had much more room in the sun around it too. I wish dogs could talk to us, then I'd give Emmi a good lecture, lol
I completely agree! We've only ever used a shock collar on one dog, which was because she just WOULD NOT stop chasing cars and we couldn't reach her to get her to stop. This worked to an extent but I HATED using it on her. We were able to stop using it when she went from chasing to just sitting...
It was very strange that she jumped on a sleeping dog twice! She's never attacked a human though or shown any other aggression like that. She's nice to my birds, cats, and miniature pinscher, and she's not even aggressive to strangers. I'd assume it was a territory issue but the other two fights...
I am really hesitant to get more dogs too while I'm still with my mom, because she's a very "a good spanking or a shock collar will correct their behaviour" instead of working with them and putting any actual effort into their training.
I'm a balanced trainer: I work mostly on rewarding them...
The first fight that broke out she was just laying in the usual spot cuddled with my black lab, and then she just started staring at my lab and started growling for no reason. I yelled "Hey!" Because my go to corrections for bad behavior are loud/firm noises, but she ignored me and jumped on her...
Thanks! I try really hard to give my dogs their best lives, and contrary to popular belief, just blindly spoiling them and allowing them to do as they please is not the way to do it. Just makes things hectic for both you and the dog. When I take them for runs in the morning they are leashed and...
My dogs eat out of puzzle bowls, must do a different trick each time they get a treat, practice different tricks often (though nothing fancy), are in training to take care of my birds, etc. I go on a 2 mile run every other morning and take a different dog with me each time, and since I live in...
Really?? My miniature pinscher is my BABY but my mom doesn't like him and I'm worried she'll sell him while I'm gone, so if you find anything on these groups could you please let me know? He's a sweetheart
Emmi has never attacked a person, and its concerning that she's attacked the other dogs. My mom was raised in the whole "dogs are only livestock, they need to be disciplined like livestock" kind of mentality, so she thinks its perfectly okay to put a shock collar on any dog as long as it trains...
Unfortunately I don't know anyone who I trust with either of my dogs when I leave. Everyone around where I live is the kind of person that will either sell the dog behind my back, not pay the dog any kind of attention (including veterinary), or abuse the dog for "not being disciplined enough."...
I did a quick search online and I didn't find any symptoms that were incriminating of that disorder, as it mostly said lethargy, intolerance of cold, etc. The only symptoms that matched were the aggression (though shes only aggressive to other dogs and very randomly), and she has trouble losing...
Its not that we don't have the money to take her, its that we don't have the money to take her and there end up being nothing wrong and the money be pretty much wasted. So I'm trying to rule out anything behavioral first. I haven't seen anything on hypothyroidism, are there other symptoms to it?
