Soo update time i guess I gave away 12 chicks last week and am down to 6 fully fibro. Of the 12 I kept 2 died of unown reasons and 4 disappeared after refusing to return to the coop. The last 6 have had no issues so far. Looking forward to when my ameraucanas and sumatras get here.
Thats cool I plan on crossing them with sumatras and ameraucanas. Also aiming for blue eggs and possibly bearded but also the flat tail of the sumatra. Plus they're both good free rangers which is nice. Who knows maybe ill get a 5 toed, bearded, blue egger, fibro, hen or a 5 toed, 2 spurred...
Hmm could be. I have 2 that I'm pretty sure are roos as well but they don't do that so its possible. All the chicks I ordered where the onyx and its been interesting to see the differences in them as they age. They're not much older then yours though so I can't say for sure till the rooster...
They are very large and fast growing mine are a month old know and I have to use 2 hands to keep them secured as well. I have fairly large hands compared to most people im 6'5" and I can palm A basketball . They are already larger then most adult game bantams I've owned. Im loving them though...
Right! they could have called them midnight americanas. It would have given them a name people already associate with a mixed chicken. Especially since they they just seem to be a silkie mixed into their americana lines. Atleast the 25 I got from hoover do.
Update on the 2 oddball chicks from last time and 2 that are just part of the horde of 21 black chicks. I didn't take pictures of i but 1 black chick is starting to redden out and 1 that was the smallest passed away I suspect it was being bullied. Still have 24 out of the 25 I originally ordered.
l Can see why people would prefer that. I don't care ether way personally. That said I only plan on keeping black and slat legged birds. clean legged is preferred but not mandatory. So im actually happy that the one chick I got that was not black is in there. Luckily it also seems to have slate...
They are just a random silkie mix though tbh. they're as much a breed as a sexlink or EE. You should have held onto them to see how the egg production was. Supposedly they lay better then the EE they offer. I've noticed hoover sells alot of mixed type chickens. The only reason I got them was...
2 out of 25 where not all black. I put more pictures of the odd 2 out in my previous post but no not all where black the chick that looks like an americana also has slat legs and 5 toes. The red faced one I suspect will be a rooster which is annoying considering I have some 3 sumatra roos coming...
They were sexed but we shall see what I get though. I suspect 2 are roosters one is the red face chick in some of the pictures. There was one oddball chick also pictured here and the rest look similar to the solid black chick. There is alot of size variation in the chicks which is interesting.
Well they arrived Friday and are doing well. No D O A which is nice. 1 has a red head and 1 has colors similar to an americana chick so we shall see how they turn out. The other 23 are fairly uniform black chick's with some minor imperfections which i expected in a mix breed. If anyone is...
