I would definitely appreciate any help in that regard! The few times I met them at my friend's house, they were about as far away from everyone as they could get. They weren't hostile or anything, but certainly a long way from eating from someone's hand :)
Thank you everyone for your fast replies and varied input! After speaking with my husband, we've decided to take just the ducks. I feel terrible about the drakes, but I can't risk my flock, especially since I'm so inexperienced. Luckily, my friend will hold them until after we move and get set...
If I take them, they'll be in large pole building (nothing raised) that I'm going to try to make more cozy and bird-friendly. I'll end up keeping them in the coop in a while until they learn where home is, but then I hope to gradually let them free range. Currently my birds are in a roughly .3...
What is your male/female ratio? How do your chickens compare, size-wise, to your drakes? The ducks/drakes are currently in a run with chickens, silkies included, so maybe they wouldn't go hump-nuts?
:DI really appreciate everyone's thoughts and advice. I'm going to talk to my husband and my friend and see if we shouldn't give the ducks a try. If I do, you can expect to have me frequent this forum with silly duck questions though! You guys are great. If anyone else had any thoughts they'd...
I probably could agree to a trial run of the ducks. The pole building I'm commandeering for my temporary coop is huge so housing should be okay if they play nice. I can get a kiddie-pool too, but I'm not sure how to keep it from freezing every night
I LOL'd when you asked if I was prepared to not take vacations (I have three kids and I'm not one of those super-moms who can do awesome stuff like huge vacations - super jealous of those who can manage it though!), but you raise some very good points. I'm not adverse to spending time/money on...
That's what I had thought I'd read. If I could whip up a separate area for them or something, I'd feel better about it, but currently I'm leaning toward letting him do what he decided to do. I have to protect the birds I took responsibility for, but it sucks. I know I won't be able to save...
Hello everyone!
Situation: I need some advice from you duck-lovers out there. A friend of mine tends to jump into things without really thinking things through, and so has 8 ducks that he doesn't want anymore. He says they're too much work and he doesn't want to deal with them through the...
