    I use dried cranberries in mine, along with the walnuts. I haven't tried pecans, but they are yummy. Dried cranberried are better than raisins! Mary

    So the Kerry Gold butter is really worth the $$$? Haven't tried it yet. Can't imagine using it in cooking though. Must get the frozen banana bread (with walnuts!) out of the freezer! Mary

    Some folks use at least some applesauce as a sugar substitute, although it also has some sugar added usually. At least mine does. I too have thrown out frozen bananas... Now they go right into banana bread, which does freeze well. In fact, that loaf in the freezer is calling to me right now! Mary

    Apples would be good too. The Settlement Cookbook also has a recipe for dried apricot bread that sounds yummy. I've never made it though. Mary

    My banana bread recipe comes from the original 'The Settlement Cookbook', first printed in 1901. My disintegrating copy is from 1965, and I just got a copy redone in 1997. A must in any kitchen! I do add the cinnamon and nutmeg, not in the original recipe. Probably spices too expensive back...
