    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

He's in that gangly stage, such a cutie ❤️ One thing I've learned about dog training, through my own many, many screw ups, is that what we are trying to teach them is not necessarily what they are learning from it. 😆 It's quite possible, if you've been overstretching him, that you have...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

A prong collar might work, might just amp him up even more. I've had several dog aggressive dogs, it's pretty common with dogs from the herding group. In my experience it's something you manage rather than try to fix. As I think I said before, you would probably be better off teaching him to...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I don't know if I can be much help to you, as I have always taught my dogs the free stack. A couple of thoughts and ideas- I went and looked at some of Finn's pics and while he is a lovely boy, he's rather straight in the shoulder, so his legs are not going to sit well under him like a dog...

Yes, mostly in breed, obedience and agility.

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

To me, from the short clip, this looks like aggressive behavior. You need to disregard the wagging tail because it's not at all unusual for dogs to wag their tail while being aggressive. He may look as if he's being friendly, but the husky is very clearly telling the border collie to back off...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

It would be best to have him evaluated by a professional trainer. They can test him with a neutral dog and watch his reactions and body language. His aggression could be based in dominance or fear, or he may be reactive.

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

If your dog is truly dog aggressive you're not going to be able to change his mind, ever. Don't even try, instead focus on teaching him to ignore other dogs.

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I'm not breeding any at this time. But I've worked with all different kinds of dogs from Pomeranians to Malinois. I've competed in breed, obedience, rally, agility and schutzhund. Sorry, I'd go into more detail, but I'm done here. :frow

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I understood what you meant. I've bred, trained and shown dogs for over 40 years, multiple breeds. I know how to proof a recall :)

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I do too, and start at 8 weeks, and by six months old I usually have a good solid recall. I can't imagine why it would take years to train a recall. 🤪

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

They are very different types of dogs. Bull Terriers are rough and tumble and can be dog aggressive. The Afghans I have known have all been good natured, silly goofballs. It might work out, could be a disaster too. :idunno

And it's great that you acknowledge that! So many people go out and get a dog based solely on looks, and then they and the dog end up unhappy with the outcome.

If it's the fringe that appeals to you there are always show bred setters- .English Gordon Irish

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

In general neither one of those breeds are the brightest stars in the sky;) Afghans are normally very active and like most sight hounds are almost impossible to teach a reliable recall. Gorgeous dogs though! Chinese Crested's I don't know all that much about, not really my cup of tea. I have...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Yep, with all the smaller toy breeds you have to select for size to keep them within standard. With random breeding they always tend to get larger. I see a light orange coat color, (although she's lacking in undercoat), prick ears (that would be better set higher on the head), tail held over the...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Looks like a 100% pet quality Pomeranian to me. :) It's not at all unusual for them to be that size if not bred to standard.

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Because most "doodle" type dogs are really just expensive mixes with who knows what behind them. I don't even see a merle pup, which one is supposed to be merle?

Also the vast majority of K9s are bred, raised, trained and tested by private breeders and trainers prior to being purchased by and placed with police departments. Some of the dogs not suitable for apprehension work, might excel at trailing suspects, or bomb, drug, and/or cadaver detection. They...
