I've never even heard of renting a plucker... Contact local places that do slaughter and ask.
I've seen some rather ingenious self made pluckers before... but I've never had more than a few chooks to pluck at a time.
Everything is well in Lake county. I feel terrible about all of the destruction on the east coast.
We did yard clean up today. A 5ft tall bonfire pile of fallen branches and limbs. But nothing broken or damaged as I moved all potted plants and objects not nailed down into a secure shed.

Kind of excited... Found some partridge silkie chicks up here in Pensacola. Wasn't looking for chicks, but I do honestly prefer the friendliness of my hand raised oegbs to the pol speck sussex pullets I got. One person has a few partridge and a couple of splash chicks, so I'll likely take the...
I took my sweet grandaughter and ran off to Pensacola.
I'm still looking for a few Partridge silkie pullets/hens, and should be back south by then so I may drive over.
There are a few partridges listed on CL up here, so I might contact those ppl and pick them up otw home.
I hear the storm is...
Ack!
That looks awful LeenyM. And a thing I've never seen on a bird before. I'm going to have to look it up so that I can be prepaired if I ever see it in my flock.
On the subject of rain... Hurricane Matthew. Ugh.
There is an evac order for the barrier islands of Brevard Co, and Disney is...
I think I quoted that post in my mssg above...
I have never been to a show, but I'll be at that one.
Any advice on how it will be for me as a pet keeper purchaseing birds from a show breeder? I assume that what they bring to shows are their personal BQ culls from their own show lines... But as...
Hope everyone here has been well. I haven't caught up with my reading... Been super busy for a while, business, babysitting my grandaughter, and a 3400 mile motorcycle vacation in the Ozarks.
My little flock of spangled oegbs started laying. Well, a couple of them have. The other girls aren't...
Ok... I have an odd pullet question. Maybe.
I already posted it earlier in the OEGB thread, but there isn't much going on there, so I thought I'd ask here.
One of my Spangled OEGB pullets, approx 10-11 weeks old, is acting very much like a little stinker of a cockerel. When I go to pick her...
I'm nearly 100% positive that those two are red sexlink cockerels.
Assuming I'm correct, and I'm sorry to say, those guys are going to end up being a good 8-9lb roosters that will become very loud.
If your mother isn't happy with one young cockerels crow now, she will be really upset when they...
Owls will carry to a nearby tree and drop the remains when they are done picking over it.
Netting over your run and calling the birds into the run/coop area with treats a bit earlier than dusk would likely resolve your loss issues if owls are the culprit.
My crew loves watermelon, but goes even more crazy over cantaloupe.
The seeds are not a problem. My crew likes the seeds/guts of cantaloupe as much or more than they like the flesh.
Little Arthur, my top pick for flock roo at 10 weeks old, dropped wing and danced this morning. Cutest thing...
IMO this appears to be a simple injury. Perhaps she flew up against some wire, or got her toes stuck and abraded them getting loose. Chickens get themselves into odd situations sometimes.
It doesn't appear to be leg/scale mites, or anything to be overly concerned about.
Anyway, I'd just put...
I never cease to be amused by how different breeds age/mature so differently.
My OEGBs at 9-10 weeks look like little adults. The boys are crowing, beginning to tidbit, and I've even seen one try to mount a pullet. She wasn't having any of it, but he gave it a whirl. The girls make the...
Next week I'm heading to Chicago for a week. Well, not a week in Chicago because two days drive there and two days drive back. But, I'll basically be gone a week and that's what bugs me even though I'm really looking forward to the trip.
My OEG bantam crew (Arthur, Eddie, Alice, Anjie, Astra...
For the most part code enforcement only ever finds a problem of any sort via complaint of a neighbor.
Since you have no close by neighbors you really shouldn't encounter any problems.
Of course that will depend on the size of the crow in your roo...
Mine are OEG bantams and are not loud at...
Sorry about your predicament BakeryBunch.
First it might help to post pics here, and in the What Breed/Gender is this thread, just so that you can advertise your chicks appropriately to potential new homes. It really is easier for someone to agree to take in birds if they know what they...
