Just done bumblefoot surgery - advice/reassurance please!

Quote: Just realised I never came back to update this thread. She's absolutely fine now! A week or so after the original surgery, her foot was much better looking, the swelling between the toes had gone down, but she still had a puffy swollen and hot ankle. As the wound on the bottom of her...

Just done bumblefoot surgery - advice/reassurance please!

If you soak and scrub gently till the foot's clean, the obvious sign of bumblefoot is a round black scab somewhere on the foot... Hey, how's Tripod doing now? Or was it trinity? Or Scooper? I forget what you ended up calling her...

Just done bumblefoot surgery - advice/reassurance please!

Quote: I don't think so. She was in a clean cardboard box and I wiped/sprayed the wound again before I bandaged it. I think she just has a really big rip-roaring pussy bumble, that's all. Looking at photos of other bumblefeet, hers is much bigger and more swollen. I changed her bandages just...

Just done bumblefoot surgery - advice/reassurance please!

Just done bumblefoot surgery - advice/reassurance please!

Point taken! I now have it covered over with clean kitchen towel sprayed with terramycin and held on with sellotape. It'll do for now till I get hold of some vet wrap or duct tape. Thanks again for your help Dawg.

Just done bumblefoot surgery - advice/reassurance please!

Thanks guys. I did have her covered up with a towel, but she still did a fair bit of squawking and struggling. Right from the start too, so I don't think it was just cause I'd got all the infection out. I've got her separated from the flock in a clean box just now, as I don't have any bandages...

Just done bumblefoot surgery - advice/reassurance please!

Two hours ago I found one of my chickens hopping on one leg. When I examined her, she had a horrible case of bumblefoot - really swollen and puffy, with it extending up her ankle too. I phoned my friend who is the local vet for some supplies and after reading through the surgery threads on here...
