She wolfed down her egg today. The penicillin isn't touching this infection though. Cyn - if I get the Cipro, how many mg do I get? I'm seeing 250mg and 500mg. Do you know the dosage I give her?
Swelling was about the same today, but it was dry, not weeping. Her skin was still hot to the touch also. She did not want to be caught and gave me a nice scratch on my wrist. Feisty little bugger, but her crop was empty. She doesn't want the egg either. I'm thinking about ordering the Cipro.
Thanks, I will keep an eye on it. I'll be pulling her out and giving her the injection every day for the next 4 days, so I'll have a good opportunity to check it. By then it will need to be re-dressed as well. (assuming it stays on that long)
Her plug came out the top too. The scab was both on top and bottom of her foot. She didn't eat her egg, but she's been busy trying to unravel the vet wrap.
I remember reading about that Cyn. I had a similar circumstance with a cockerel with a broken leg, it wasn't until after I culled him that I saw his whole leg was black from internal bleeding. He didn't have much swelling but he could not walk. His was a full break too.
Could her bumblefoot...
I got 1 cc of penicillin in her. Then I worked on the bumblefoot, got the plug out - it went all the way through her foot to the webbing between her toes. The black scab was on the top and the bottom. Put neosporin on it and wrapped up her foot with gauze/vet wrap. She then pooped on me to...
Thank you Cyn. I have it on hand, and I want to get something in her ASAP. The weight from the swelling, her wing is just dragging on the ground. If I don't see any improvement in a few days, I'd be happy to try something else. But at this point, I'm certain to lose her if I do nothing...
I found one of my hens this morning unable to hold her wing up. I thought maybe she broke it, but when I picked her up, I noticed a lot of swelling on the underside around the wing bones. The swelling goes all the way down to her body. It's also weeping through the skin. I noticed she has...
