I'm not the person you were asking, but for me it was the large comb/wattles and feet that said cockerel to me. The coloring looked female for quite a while, but in the latest update he looks like a cockerel should.

Let's not start again 😩 He was crowing, he's a boy. I don't know what's going on with his feathers, but I look forward to seeing how his big boy feathers come in!

We finally know!!! I'm sorry he turned out to be a boy, but I'm glad you figured it out.

This one sure is a stumper! I'm looking forward to learning what he/she ends up being. Hope you feel better soon too :hugs

On the one hand, he/she's got a definite female feather pattern. On the other, those wattles and comb are almost as big as my Barnie hen's were.

What do you think about the red patches on the wings though? That’s not often found in pullets.

I can’t say pullet anymore. 😭 I’m afraid that’s a cockerel through and through. The leakage on the wings, big feet, giant comb and wattles…I’m not holding out much hope.

The Australorp's comb doesn't look incredibly big, but the wattles are a bit red...I think you'd have to catch one or the other crowing at this point. 😅

You said you thought your Australorp was a roo as well, maybe it was him trying to crow...I'm pretty sure your Barnie is a cockerel too though. :hmm

Here in the US they should all have black chests. Y'all Aussies just tend to do stuff oddly.

Oh geez, I swear this chicken gets harder to sex each time you post a new photo of him/her. 😂 There is lacing on the chest, but with that giant comb and wattles I don't see any way that could be a pullet. Do you have another Barnie to compare with?

He does look an awful lot like a cockerel...it's much too early to see male-specific feathers, those won't appear until around 12 weeks or so. But he's got a pretty big comb and those wattles are turning red.

Cockerels will develop patchier coloring overall, and eventually be black breasted. Big patches of brighter color are the main thing you need to watch out for. Pullets will have nice, even lacing all over. As well as coloring, you can watch the comb and wattles to see if they suddenly turn more...

Unfortunately I think it's a cockerel, his coloring is starting to look more boyish, and he's got wattles developing now. :hmm
