Yeah, I helped chickens, geese and quails hatch and all of them survived, guess I've just been lucky. They would have died either way, so at least I am happy I could give them a shot at life :)
not sure, but i guess it all started with that one duckling who was not using one leg (???) one thing i noticed though is the ones that died were the ones that needed to be pulled out of the egg by me.
Aww, I have a problem :( one duckling stopped using one leg. I don't really know what happened, he doesn't seem to be feeling pain and can move it, but he just hops on one leg...
soon ;) btw i finally saw them eat, yet to see them drink, but they are super active so i guess they are drinking as well. Never seen a newborn animal this fast, these guys almost climb up the sides of the brooder already
ok, another update: we are now at 4 ducklings, already moved them into the brooder :), haven't seen any eat or drink yet, but i introduced them to the water and food and gave them some hard boiled yolk to eat.
Update: another one hatched while one has enlarged the external pip and is starting to unzip. So now we have 3 ducklings and 1 unzipping. :), The other two eggs don't have any pips yet, but I'll keep checking on them for the next few days.
Right! So, I moved the duckling in the brooder. I had to help the other egg hatch (the malpositioned one) since it was getting shrink wrapped. Had to pull out some feathers unfortunately as they were just too stuck in the membrane, but the q-tip with warm water helped get it all off. He is now...
Not the best pic, but it's hard to take pics from the outside ahah, he has decided to climb onto his brothers now. Never seen a bird this active this little time after birth, guess I should've known since he got out of the egg 2 days before the due date heheh
Ahah, no worries :), yes, the bowling ball game freaks me out too, but he was born at night so the brooder will be waiting for him tomorrow morning as soon as I get out of bed :)
