    Rooster with an injured eye

Luckily for George I was keeping an eye out, he'd been fighting with his brother a little earlier but I expected them to settle down as they'd done in the past but George was serious in his quest for dominance this time. He looked ok later after the fight was over but started acting odd (was...

    Rooster with an injured eye

I don't know how much he sees out of that eye, hard for me to say, just that he does see something. When it was injured there didn't appear to be any damage to the eyeball itself, just a hole in his lower eyelid but his eye was swollen shut for quite some time. He seems to do ok with...

    Rooster with an injured eye

At most he's half blind, he does react when I move my hand toward him from that side so I believe he does see something but how much I don't know. When this happened I was afraid he wouldn't have a pupil, but luckily it wasn't that bad, only a hole in the lower eyelid. I can't imagine what...

    Rooster with an injured eye

A quick update if anyone is interested, he's doing fine, the only indication that anything was ever wrong is that the injured eye is paler in color than the other eye. It's no longer orange but more of a tan color.

    Rooster with an injured eye

He's doing much better. I was finally able to get the last of the gunk out of his eye which helped a lot and the swelling in his eyelid is slowly going down. Think he's gained a little weight also. I expect he'll make a full recovery.

    Rooster with an injured eye

Eye's getting better, should I keep on with the antibiotic ointment for the eye or let it continue healing on its own? I don't think it's going stay in there for long if I keep applying it.

    Rooster with an injured eye

I tried the syringe, it sucked at it but couldn't suck it up, just sucked up the saline/tears. Might have needed a larger diameter opening for it to work. I didn't try too hard to get it to work for fear of hurting him. The swelling on the eyelid is going down a little, most of the pus is...

    Rooster with an injured eye

It's tough stuff, that pus. Not sure I'll be able to do it 2X a day every day but I'll try. I think once the eyelid area swelling starts to go down it'll get easier to get it out. I just had the thought that I could maybe use a syringe with the needle removed to suck the pus out, the...

    Rooster with an injured eye

I managed with my son's help holding him and holding his eye open. I did the best I could getting it cleaned out but wasn't able to get it completely cleaned out. There is some yellow mucus like stuff in there, it was the constancy of sour cream and his eye lids and around the socket is so...

    Rooster with an injured eye

Ok, he's not very cooperative but we'll give it a shot. Neosporin as in the regular stuff or a version for eyes? I thought that stuff says don't use in the eye (for humans)? Just ordered some of the Terramycin eye ointment, should get it Monday. Ok, I'll do that also though he doesn't...

    Rooster with an injured eye

Several days ago one of my jungle fowl roosters (Georgie) decided to challenge the status quo and got into a fight with one of his brothers in the rooster coop. He lost. For a few days he was drooping and I was worried he wouldn't make it but after a few aspirins and some rest he's back to...
