    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Got up at 6, paid a visit to the patient and helped her get some water in. Made a trip to a local cattle-supplies store and got some anti-worm meds for small farm animals, when I got home she had died. Kathy, thank you so much for your help, it seems I sought help in too late a stage. We've...

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Fenbendazole Panacur, about 20 bucks (15 european) for 10 tabs of 250mg doses. 1 tab is for 11lbs (5kg) so I can split one in 5 bits and give 1 bit each day, they recommend pulverizing it and mixing it with fluids. How's that sound to you?

Whats the component responsible for dealing with worms? I'll find a suitable replacement. I'm from the Netherlands by the way and Beaphar is a manufacturer in these parts with several product on the market.

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Ok, here we go! 3:30 hours ago her crop still felt like one of those stress-balls, just now it felt a bit harder again so I doses another bit of luke-warm fluid (70cc water, 5gr sugar, 5ml olive oil) and massaged it again. I'm off work tomorrow at 12:00 so I'll try and find that med you were...

That's a laxative? That clears the crop too? I'm on my way home again, gonna have a look see before dinner and let you know whether the fluid has drained from the crop or not.

Yes, got a 3mm (1/10") air-tube used for aquariums, smoothed the edges with a flaming hot blade. Reckon it's beneficial to keep massaging the poor thing's crop? Or just let it rest until the mass sets again?

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Just gonna try and do it every 2 hours then, 60-70cc's of water with 5gr of sugar and 5ml of olive oil. Was just observing her and she was shaking her head, gave her another massage and she threw up quite violently and is now catching her breath back in quarantine. The vomit was gooey and...

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Ok, last night at 1:00-2:30AM I've given the (big) Orpington, 9mo old, barely 2lbs (a kg) 2 doses 65 minutes apart of 60-70ml water. Followed by a small massage to losen things up. This morning her crop contents had set again, it felt pretty hard (lumpy). I've massaged it again and had to head...

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Ok, read your reply, went out and give or take 65 minutes after the first one she got another dose and a small massage. NOW! it's time for bed haha edit; about the tube, just cauterize it with an iron pin inside? smooth the edges, keep the hole open.

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Massaged her crop, it filled up quite nicely and it's more maleable now. I'll see in the morning if there's a substantial change. Alarm'll go in 4hrs, so I'll let ya know in my break how the morning went (checking crop, adding sugar to water, another fluid-dose) and buying tubing on my way home...

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

I have a syringe, it's 2AM and I just put 30cc's of luke-warm water into her tummy, her face is still in surprised mode due to the fact they normally don't entertain guests in the middle of the night. Right now it's a struggle to get the beak open and the syringe in properly with zero vision...

Thanks for your contribution Kathy, I'd just come across this one; https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1048620/how-to-provide-emergency-and-supportive-care-updated-12-21-2015#post_16068451, in one of your posts (how is it not stickied?! haha) I've got a syringe lying around (for the aquarium...

I'll do some more research through this forum, specifically on crop conditions. Egg-Bound sounds unlikely but I'll inspect her egg-canal tomorrow before work. I'll check with a small-farm-animals-club in the area to see who they recommend for avian veterinaries or if they've got some experience...

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Thanks loads for your reply! Crop is less full by morning, how empty is it supposed to be? I've tried to have her vomit, did some youtube-recommended oil shots to losen things up, massaging her crop a couple of times a week. So far to no avail, last week she's had 2 days of not eating any...

    Sick Orpington, Dying? :(

Dear chicken-friends, I have an Orpington, a big girl, she weighed in at about 6lbs (3kg) a month ago and was the happiest, friendliest chicken ever. She lives with 4 other Orps, a Brahma and 2 egg-laying powerhouses (a tad smaller than her) in a big enough coop and run. She's about 9 months...
