We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Oh excellent, that's good to know :) He was most displeased with us when we carried him around for a while the other day to give mumma duck a chance to get away from him. He had a bit of a tantrum about being blocked from his girls - on valentines day too! Haha

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Thanks @Miss Lydia :) I was wondering that - whether there was a time of year that was more of a 'breeding season'. So after Summer will he likely calm down a bit?

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Well, I thought if update with a new "look how much the duckling has grown" pic! We're having issues introducing the duckling to our male, it's fine with all of the females. We've tried twice to let them freerange together but our male (Norris) is crazily trying to mate with mumma duck (I...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

LOL yes if it wasn't 30C that night having a big fur dog snuggler would have been lovely :D I haven't ever heard of any getting struck by lightning, no. Maybe they do have an inbuilt protection system of some sort :D I am quite sure I'll have a team of muddy posers all fighting to be the star...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Mr Duck Norris was flapping his wings and standing up straight in the middle of the yard. I was frwaking out because there was a fair bit of lightning around! I kept yelling at them to stop being lightning attractors! :O Thank goodness my little old Staffy is not fazed by storms. She couldn't...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Last night we had a huge storm, the thunder was like nothing I'd ever heard! Rain belting down and even hail! Right in the middle of Summer. So at 3am I was sitting out in the duck enclosure with a torch making sure that little baby was not getting wet or too scared! Luckily she was just fine...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

We will definitely be keeping this one. We planned to rehome them if we had quite a few but decided if there weren't many we would keep them, so this baby stays with the flock :) Well, the little cutie refused to be a supermodel for me this afternoon (which was probably just as well because my...

Thankyou @Lacrystol you have all made me feel so much better now. Still sad, but feeling more like I've learned some lessons and will know better forever more. I LOVE that you gave a chicken mouth to mouth! I would do the same if I thought it would help! (Now I know that there's a chance it...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Thanks guys They have all calmed down this morning, Coco and her baby are doing really well. Baby is 10 days old now and getting so big! We're in such a catch 22 at the moment because we've got a week and a half of 40 degree Celsius temps happening , so of course, lots of water bowls are a...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

It really is, isn't it. Every time I go out there at the moment I picture him running around with his funny fat little body and get upset again! We've given him a name (we don't know if he was definitely a he, but were just saying he is because we referred to him as he from day one!) his name...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Thank you, I'm so glad I took your advice and have kept mum and ducklings separate from the others after we lost the first one on the first day, even with all their complaining. I'm not going to let them run together until this baby is at least 4 weeks and even then I'll probably be paranoid...

Thank you so much @Miss Lydia I'm so sorry you had to feel this pain too. Thank you for telling me your story, it makes it slightly easier to share my pain. He'd only been in my life 4 days and I was besotted with him.

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

I have just found our youngest baby drowned. Inconsolable doesn't even begin to describe it. I had lots of shallow water bowls for the ducklings in the enclosure and one talk one for mumma because I wanted her to be able to wash her nostrils out properly. I've kept such a close eye on them to...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

Oh good I'm glad I'm doing the right thing, by the babies, even if their mum is not impressed :D Haha that is an excellent idea about taking eggs to the neighbors to keep them on side! At least the mumma I had to take out when her eggs went bad has calmed down now. She free ranges with the...

We had ducklings hatch today! One very exhausted - advice appreciated! :)

@Miss Lydia she would really really like to take them outside. The entire neighbourhood is now aware of this... I might record her for the next time someone asks me if ducks are louder than chickens! :O but I don't think our set up quite allows for her to take them out yet when the little one is...

Hehe ok, you asked for it! ;) Here's a couple I took last night and I'll get some more tomorrow :) I love how the little one is just peeking out from under mummas wing on this one :)

Well mumma Coco made the decision herself about the 2 remaining eggs and pushed them out of the nest during the day! I've just got home and the 2 duckling siblings are snuggling together next to mum so it looks like happy families :)
