Poor guy. Post it in the emergencies section, probably get more help there. I think keeping it clean and keeping him away from other chickens so they don't peck at it will take care of most of it.
That hen at least is out then, looks like. None of my adults have even a hint of a feather...
My first chicks from my japs have hatched. All 3 that hatched have feathers on their legs. Is this a big deal, will they still have stubs when they are older? The 3 hatched were all from the same hen, I have eggs from another hen due in a few weeks, if those chicks have feather stubs too does...
I haven't had mine long enough for a broody, but my other bantams are similar size and I generally give them up to 6 large fowl eggs,or up to 8 bantam eggs. I don't know where you live, but when it's colder I give less, just to make sure there's less a chance of them not being able to cover them...
I am new to this, but I'm pretty sure you would get somewhere around 50/50. Although a short legged roo might have some problems getting the deed done with a long legged girl. Where there's a will there's a way though.
Took some new pics of my japanese today, since I haven't since shortly after getting them, when they were finishing up molting. I've got eggs in the incubator and can't wait to hatch my first chicks from them soon.
My first japanese chick is almost hatched. But it looks like it has 5 toes on it's feet? How would that happen? I really wanted some of these too, they are bar tailed japs. At least my mottled are starting to lay, so I have my first eggs going in the incubator too.
I know. I have an EE that is I think 34 weeks old now and has yet to lay her first egg. I'm so tired of waiting, but it's going to be so nice to finally see that whatever color egg in the coop, lol.
They are pretty bigger than I thought they'd be, but mine are hens so pullet eggs might not be as big.
This is them in a regular large egg carton, if that helps.
Thank you! He is coming out of molt, and when I got him his comb was pale and really floppy. It's been standing up straighter each week, now just the back tips a little at the ends. It hasn't got very cold here yet.
This is him a week or two after I got him, it had started getting redder then...
So then how about we drop it and talk about chickens? If you want to keep going on about it, why not do it on your thread instead please and leave this one for what it's supposed to be for?
x2
Critiques of your birds may be hard to hear, but will help to learn what your birds faults are, and what you need to improve on. It's not a personal insult against you or your birds, just an observation.
If anyone wants to "judge" mine, feel free. I think i have one hen with too much white...
Got my first egg from my japanese (bottom left) a few days ago. I'm hoping one of the other hens will start up now, so I can set some and check fertility. Can't wait to hatch some cute little jap chicks. \
Mine are settling in nicely. There was some good wind a week after I got them that damaged the quarantine coop, so they got moved into general population early. They seem happy, there wasn't really any bickering or fighting with the existing birds at all. My other roo out there is a d'uccle who...
