I don't know, but it could have been handled roughly. Many detached air cells occur when egg are handled roughly, as well as scrambled air cells.

The chicks look perfectly fine, the egg does not look like it will not hatch, though.

That is a dead egg. Rid yourself of it. It has a detached air cell. @sourland you have great knowledge on topics as these, what are your thoughts?
