Well some people like to voice their opinions on whether or not ducklings should be walking through mud. That's why I said that they preferred the mud over the bedding. In my opinion, it's like when little kids play in the mud. It makes them less likely to get sick from it as they grow up.

Took the babies out to enjoy the warm day for a half hour. They're now back inside. And before some of you come at me about Colonel being near them, since I was with them the entire time they were out, he refused to get any closer. And yes, they preferred walking through the mud over the fresh...

It got so warm today that the ducklings and chicks have barely used the heating plate at all.

The ducklings:

We lost duckling #8. They died during the night

Brooder is bigger than shown. They just prefer to stay underneath the heating plate. . . .

They've been like this since early yesterday afternoon

Duckling #8 hatched out fine by themselves but I'm wondering what could be wrong with it aside from the leg. . . . .

Update. All ducklings have hatched but #8 seems to have an issue. A video will be posted below once it finishes uploading to vimeo

When I post photos of all the ducklings, I will also include which 6 are Kaeda's and which 2 are from our WH ducks.

Even though they're still trying to hatch, how long do the 2 remaining ducklings have before I should intervene?

Ducklings #4, #5, and #6 hatched during the night. I left #2 and #3 in there all night as I didn't feel comfortable carrying them outside to the brooder as it was too cold in my opinion. Ducklings #7 and #8 should hatch out during tonight or very early tomorrow morning. Photos will be posted...

Ducklings #2 and #3 have hatched!

Duckling #2 should be hatched out by tonight.

I have to confess that I did end up helping it out of the shell near the end. I made sure to be very careful. It's currently knocking the other eggs around in the incubator while moving around

Tiny is currently drying in the incubator and will be placed with in the brooder in the early morning
