Here's a couple pictures of some 5-6 month old Golden Campines. The black barring on the cockerels tend to be wider and darker than the pullets. Also the combs on 7-8 month old cockerels will tend be quite pronounced and bright.

The weather rarely phases my Campines. They are probably the hardiest and toughest birds I have on the farm. Even my roos with their big single combs, don't seem to be very prone to frostbite, if they are given shelter. The only problem I had after last winter's horrible weather was that it was...

Thank you. Your birds are lovely. Do you sell eggs? I won't be ready for a new project until the spring!
Thanks. I am working hard to improve my Campines, but they are still not where I would like them to be. But I have seen some progress and I think my 2011 hatch has some good young...
The standard weight in the SOP is 6 lbs. for a cock and 4 lbs. for a hen. Most of the Golden Campines I have raised from exhibition lines are a little heavier. My Silver Campines tend to be a little smaller than my Goldens at this point. Most of the hatchery Campines that I have seen or raised...
A few more pics of my young Campines. I hope I'm not boring everyone with all the pictures, but I love my Campines. I think I am seeing some improvement with the barring in this year's crop even though they are still young. Improved barring was my main goal when I set up my breeding pens last...
On "treat day", it can get real interesting. Of course, the Campines are always the first in line! They're like big ol' yellow jackets swarming around my feet. One little cockerel always flies straight to my shoulder or back or head.......terrible sense of direction!
I have hatched 60+ Campines this year and I am hoping I will end up with a few quality, young birds to keep for breeders. I've completed one round of culling for major faults and will cull another bunch in a few weeks. Most are still way too young to make a decision on and some are still in the...
Campines are excellent foragers and free rangers but will also tolerate confinement quite well. Mine are some of the toughest birds I have. They will withstand the cold or heat very well. They are usually very curious and friendly birds but can also be flighty if startled or feeling threatened...

The 2nd pic could definitely be a pullet. But something about the reddening throughout the comb still makes me want to say roo. Give it a couple more weeks and you should have a better idea. I find that most Campines are easy to sex fairly early, but there are always a few at this...
It looks like you have a pullet in the first picture. I'm leaning toward roo in 2nd pic. The comb looks like it might be reddening up some, which would indicate a roo this early.
Just thought I would post some pictures of my hatchery Campine hen that just hatched some babies. I kept the best pullet from my hatchery Campines last year and culled the rest. I kept her around just so people could see the difference between hatchery Campines and Campines from exhibition...
I have also heard people say that they are early developers, but mine have not been. My roos seem to mature quicker than some other breeds, but not the hens. There may be some breeding lines out there that do develop early though. My Campines are from exhibition lines, so they may be a little...
Jane,
In my experience with Campines, the pullets are not very fast developers. I have some Campine pullets that are 23 weeks old and they don't even look close to laying. Their combs have just started to grow and turn a little pink. But their back ends have not filled out and their pelvic...
