    Do you go to a food bank? Sometimes they give out rice that most people don't like. I wouldn't suggest giving them too much of that, but they'd love to dig around it. Also, throw in some dried beans. They might not eat them, but it'd be entertainment.

    Oh they should be. I've had flocks that would be in the run all day except for when I'm out there to watch out for predators. If you want, give them some toys to play with. Give them some cabbage. If you want (and can) make their yard bigger for more playing room. Give them leaves when you can...

    I'd keep what you are doing. I think that you shouldn't free-range your chickens when you're not there, if there's a concern of predators. If you're there and a predator comes, you can protect your flock. If you're not there when a predator comes, who will protect your flock?
