We just finished covering the entire area that we fenced off for our chickens with netting yesterday. I am so happy to hear that it worked for you! Did the hawk bounce off or get caught in the netting? Did you need to make repairs? I have posted pictures earlier in the thread of the area we...
Okay, you have to post a picture of this!
We have about 1/3 of the avian netting up. It is very difficult to work with, but once we started to figure out the crazy way it was rolled up things went faster. I am surprised at how very strong it is, and how a mass of black netting is almost unseen...
People have suggested to attract crows, how does one do that? We will have occasional flocks, but I live in the city, there are no crops near to grab their attention.
@ 2eggheads:
That is terrible! Mourning chickens, that is really sad. Like you, I dont really want to harm a hawk, but I did add a pellet gun to play a little offense. It is cold and blustery here tonight, but my husband was able to get a good start on stringing strong fishing line from the...

****! I need to start keeping those on the back porch along with our useless rubber chicken boots!! In all seriousness- I need some help. If there is a way to message me for more detailed advice, please do. I understand that certain methods need not be publicly promoted...
How would I deal with the hawk? The shoe I threw at it (if it is the same one) a few weeks ago didn't work :( Is it safe to assume that it is the same one? We dont see them very often...
I grabbed the other girls and locked them in the coop, but left Luna out. Partly because I don't think I can stomach it, and partly bc I am hoping the stupid jerk hawk will come back and carry her away so we don't HAVE to deal with it. Now we will have to go back to only supervised outdoor time...
A couple of hours ago I was SECONDS too late. A hawk lazily flew away as I screamed at it, and it left Luna, our 2 month old SL Wyandotte. It just shredded her head and left everything else. The worst part is that we had a hawk a few weeks ago that noticed my chickens, but haven't seen it since...
