shucks Tina , we win some, we lose some.
I have no idea what woke me but when I got up I noticed that the lamp in the brooder was out.. OUTSIDE..
anyway, it's a good thing I got up. Normally if the light is out.. (I turn it off during the day because it got up to 80 today) the chicks will...
Congrats on those that have lived.
Sorry about the ones that died.
My sixteen lively little chicks are all doing great in the Laree Brooder... and their wings are growing as are some of the tail feathers.... but oh my, they make a mess.
you know, I guess all chickens do.
I did the same thing with two of my NYD Hatch chicks.... they both passed. I wondered if they hadn't swallowed some pine chips... it was the only thing I could think of.
It has three heights. When they are new born, it's almost not low enough. As they grow you make it higher.
BUT GET THE LARGE... the one I got is the 20, GET THE 50... I wish I would have... I'll still probably buy the 50 next year.
twentynine. CONGRATS!
Did I tell you that I name one of my chicks from the NYD hatch "29"... it's how many I hatched and it was the last one out...
a Blue feathered Olive egger... SWA X FBCM!
Did I tell y'all that I ended up with 16 chicks. 4 OEs and 12 purebred w/bw Ameraucanas.
They are adorable. I am in love with all of them.
... and they are eatin' , drinkin', POOPIN' machines!
THAT IS a LOT of very useful information!
A lot of y'all seem to have problems with chicks not gettin out. Over the years, I've help like A LOT of chicks out. Some live, some die. I have grown to notice the signs of an egg that needs help and is ready to come out.
Good sighns:
Chick has...
Dang Blarney... here's hoping you get at least two!
Woke up to four chicks in the bator w/ one that was shrink wrapped, so I helped it.
That gives me 16 total. Amazing, that's what I guessed I'd get.
There are two still in the bator drying off and gaining strength... I downed the humidity...
OH, and BTW everyone.
HAPPY GROUND HOG'S DAY!
I've been singing Ground Hog's Day carols all morning...
"Ground Hog roasting on an open fire.... "
... this year I have a 20 lb.er in the oven!
kids are all excited to see what the ghost of Ground Hog's Day's past has brought them.
It's...
Well two of the five pipped eggs are out. One of the five quit and died. Two look like they are still haning on and will need help. The two from my coop also look like they've quit.
So I'll get up and try and help the two that need help in the AM before I head to work.
OK... I candled again. Two obvious quitters.. but I popped the top on one of them and PEE YUUUU!!... it litterally BLEW in my face.
I've showered now.
I have five pips in WMR eggs and two in eggs from my coop... and one that I don 't know what's going on.... I hope they hatch.... all of...
Here they are...
Other wheaten Am is not hiding in this one.
The one on the UL of the pic is the other OE...3/4 Am 1/4 Wheaten Marans... notice the feathers on it's feet?
And some of my New Years Day chicks enjoying some fresh cut broccoli from my garden.
Guess I need to take some pics.
One more from my coop out. HUGE... gotta be a roo. Pure breed Splash Wheaten Ameraucana! (Splash X Splash) out of a VERY BLUE egg.
