Wet and Dry Fowl Pox - Graphic Pictures of Pus and Scabs

All my best wishesWe have closed a chapter I hope to not revisit, ever. Tonight I just enjoyed watching my other pumpkins eating and squabbling over bed and roost rights.

I am so sorry, I did not want to tell you 2 of my pumpkins died in the last couple of nights. I feel so sad and I miss them.

If you're satisfied its not canker which needs a different treatment (use search box to find older canker threads), then wait and see. If your chick responds well to good nutrition etc as mentioned and remains very active she might do OK. You really have to make the call. It is strange you...

Wet and Dry Fowl Pox - Graphic Pictures of Pus and Scabs

Unfortunately if your chick has the pox it is a virus, no cure. All you can do is assist its healing as best you can with nutrition and try to help the pox dry into scabs without secondary infection or undue stress. Of my 11 chicks that got pox when they were 2-3 weeks old, only 5 appear...

Yeah I know Dettol and always chose betadine for first aid, I'd personally not be inclined to put Dettol on a human infants face, and after keeping parrots for many years I know birds have more fragile respiratory systems than us. Here is an idea! Years ago I helped out at a FNQ wildlife rescue...

Personally I wouldn't around the chicks face even diluted in case it irritated eyes/breathing, saline seems better. Dettol and benzyl benzoate are both toxic to the bird if it ingests it or absorbs it through the skin; http://www.westtoowoombavetsurgery.com/external-parasites-in-birds.pml...

From your updated photos. It really looks like the dry pox that I've experienced with my very young chicks, it gets their mouth and eye areas badly. The older pullets and chickens all got the "standard" versions shown in most photos i.e. a few scabs on their comb, turned out to be no drama for...

I am new as well. However the pox hit all the chicks and the mama broody within 5-10 days and progressively got worse.....I did not know that their area would remain infected after I moved them away from the main flock and I ended up using their pen for others... so over the next few weeks it...

How is the little chick? Did you look at the photos on this thread to see if it matches pox? Is it just one chick or are your other birds showing signs? (I assume you have other chicks/chickens?)

You gave me an idea In my house is not practical for more than 1 or 2 emergency care chicks as my bathroom is tiny and my indoor dog is not a chicken amigo.....however!!!! I can kick the donkey's out of their mini barn that is a couple of acres away from the entire flock. That would make a...

Wet and Dry Fowl Pox - Graphic Pictures of Pus and Scabs

Thanks, so 3 months it is. A major disappointment as it's summer & perfect for me to double my flock size without running heat lamps, setting up winter brooders etc and then be set for a good sized egg and meat flock that might be able to 'pay' for itself in 6+ months.

Posting this question in 2 threads...hoping an expert will find it Somewhere on this thread perhaps I read to wait 3 months after the dry pox works its way through the flock. I was hoping to get some more chicks in a few weeks....around 4 weeks after the last outbreak. (the new infections are...

Yep, we get a product one day and then.....not for a long time. Sometimes I miss peanut butter! So it is tricky even for simple meds. The saline solution available is perfect for a drip with a human on the end, not so great for a little chick eye needing repeat applications. I am interested no...

Thanks I had not seen the 2nd link before. I dread my youngest layer chicks only 2 weeks old getting it, and also all my 2 month old mix of layer and meaty chicks, it was starting out as a great season for this newbie....but, unfortunately the pox continues to spread, another bird now infected...

Thanks...yep read through the whole thread (gets a bit confusing) and have tried all but the saline & probiotic yogurt (can't find any) was hoping the FF would help with probiotics, will return them to FF when the anti biotic - oxytetracycline course finishes as I add it to their water and...

OK I have been adding fresh cracked pepper (think I read it somewhere on this thread) so will continue. Was uncertain about betadine...is it safe to dab on lightly every second day?

Extreme Dry Pox....really frustrated need a sensible straight talk about 7 chicks who survived their mama. First off - I am in rural Paraguay ambulances for humans have zero equipment, vets are no good and I already saw one that wouldn't touch the chick I took to show let alone help with cutting...
