Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Time for a happy update! My sick girl made it through 7 days of ACS treatment - crop much better, no more vent gleet and her flystrike wound is really healing. She is not like a spring chicken - but rebounding nicely. I will not be surprised if she does not live for years…but I’m so grateful to...

She has huge spurs! Glad you saw that too :). Thanks - I’ll keep at the neosporin.

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

And now I don’t know. I saw a white discharge two days ago, and I have a poop pic. But tonight I came home and no white discharge. She takes the miconazole when I mix it. I guess I need to learn how to give it in a syringe. Just hoping that ACS gets here! She is acting better - a bit more...

May be just the way I refer to them :)

The miconazole suppositories. She’s so not eating them. I did find a miconazole cream without polyethene glycol and she took a bit of that. Now I think she has vent gleet too.

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Keep meaning to post a pic. My hen’s fly strike wound continues to heal. However I am 4 days into sour crop treatment with Monistat tabs and she’s loosing weight. She really refuses the meds and yogurt/egg (also tried meal worm enticement without success). She’s a champ outside though. Foraging...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Pecky was on top but clearly that would flips as of now. Might help with reuniting? I’ll post a pic of her wound tomorrow. Better it will take weeks to heal. Any other wound covering solutions? If my hen recovers a bit more would love to get her back with her Finch.

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Pecky (my sick girl on the left) out with her friend in the jungle on her right. Finch left her alone for the most part - but we closely supervised as I’m not too trusting. Will do anti-candida for 7 days. A bit of time together each day until Pecky is better. While she’s out of the woods she’s...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

@Wyorp Rock Day 6: you were right! Sour crop. Certainly squishy this morning after I pulled food last night. She is not as energetic this morning (although her wound care was pretty early as I’m on my way to work…). I’ll start miconazole today. Hoping to give her a bit of outdoor time...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

These are great articles and advice. I was at work today - she clearly ate some and drank some today but was not quite as active when I got home (not sure my husband kept the music on - ha!). Her crop tonight feels more squishy so I think you're right. I took out food and water tonight and...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Day 5: definitely better this morning. Crop went down considerably but did not empty all the way. No hard, but I still can feel it is there (I’m new to feeling crops so not quite confident this is what I’m feeling). She’s much more full of vigor this morning. Clucking around the garage. Wound...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Thanks so much for all of this - really great info. Her crop was very full last night so I'll see how it is in a few. So good to have the perspective of all of the disorders/diseases that can cause these symptoms. Will help me feel better if we do actually loose her. Her voice did get...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Thanks so much - I finally read your whole thread and you were awesome with that hen that made it! Was inspirational. I so appreciate all the support on this thread! I’m for sure worried there’s something underlying this fly strike. We adopted a small flock when we bought our house last year -...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Just trying to give her a chance. I have a vet that would help me euthanize but not much on the treatment front. I can do the maggots but it turned my husbands stomach. I caught him mouth breathing when he was holding her just like he did when our kids would have poop blow outs! So sorry for...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Yes eating and drinking better each day. I’m doing some scrambled egg and her feed soaked in electrolyte water and we’ll as vitamins and electrolytes in the water. Today she is moving around to get food and water on her own in her crate. Poops are pretty runny and green though (so clearly not...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

AM day 4: no larvae today. I added anti-bacterial ointment (without pain reliever ;) and sprayed after a quick wash out. Wound apprears to be healing. She’s standing much more, eating food and drink when offered. But not really walking around her pen. Cluck still sounds a little wheezy/weak (she...

Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Yes I did misunderstand! Thank you so much for clarifying. I have that in the house for my kids usual scrapes. I’ll add for next wash out in the am. My feeling when handling her is there isn’t too much pain involved with the wound - there’s not much live tissue really (sad but true). She...
