Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

The feathers are actually quite flexible, so they're not harmed if they're scrunched up. It's more so about keeping them dry and clean than anything.

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

I haven't been able to find any, but mine are pretty strong fliers from an early age, but that's most lines of Phoenix.

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

It is, so the daily exercise and good diet is definitely a must, along with a bird with a calmer temperament that would take to confinement well.

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

I think I may have spelled it wrong haha, but here is a video of one from a breeder in Japan -

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

Yeah! But most of the time if people have a bird they suspect might actually get that long, they'll put them in a tomebaku.

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

To be honest, I'm not completely sure. I've only had my birds for about a year, so I'm speaking purely on anecdotal experience here (as well as what I've managed to find online), but I've noticed that all of the feathers seem to grow more quickly. Like I know that my Phoenix can fly and get on...

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

Interesting. And you are right that a great deal of care is required to keep the tail feathers in good condition. Expressing the non-molting trait requires not only the right genetics, but also the right environment. The roosters that are bred for non-molting are kept in a tomebaku (but some...

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

Yes, but only purebred Onagadori from Japan have ever gotten tails in the 30+ feet range. What we have in the US is mostly Phoenix, most of which can't get tails longer than 3-5 feet in well bred lines. However, I know that CY Hyde has a really old line of Phoenix that have a higher percentage...

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

Yes, it's the tail feathers that don't molt. The rest of the bird molts once every 1-2 years (depending on the feather group) much like a normal chicken. But it is true that if the tail isn't properly cared for it will get ratty and damaged, and would likely get shredded once it reached ground...

Anyone on here breed non-molting fowl?

Hey ya'll! So I know that this is a very niche subject, but I have a line of silver ginger Phoenix that have the David Roger's line bred into them. I want to make sure I properly select for non-molting characteristics in these birds, so I'm looking for some advice from people who actually breed...
