    Basically yes, but "bounce back" could take a day or two, not just the first hour or two. They need to eat, and digest that food to give them more energy, and eat some more, all interspersed with drinking and sleeping, and they are also learning what stuff is good to eat and where to find it.

    With a brooder plate, the chicks have to make a choice between heat and food/water. With a heat lamp, they can have everything at once. If they have just been shipped, they need it all now. Within a few days, they will be able to alternate eating with warming up (brooder plate).
