I'm like that. I have 5 chickens for eggs and 4 silkie roosters that live in-house because they crow all the time. I love them all, I couldn't eat them. The are my pets. :P

Are you getting them as pets, to breed or to....(Sorry) eat? I would go with day old. That way you see the quality. As well as the weak are weeded out.
