As I posted above we got a few ducks, kept one, then lost it to a coon attack. Our newest sponsor has white muscovy's and I'm wondering if they are a good breed to go with? Again, we need quiet (and female) and friendly as our top two requirements...

Wow, I started this thread over a year ago. In that time we got a duckling, raised it up, lost it to a coon and are now looking for muscovy eggs or ducklings.

Very tricky..... with screens or rocks/gravel you gotta worry about the poop getting things all plugged up.

I dropped by the feed store today to look at what they've got and what they are getting. Ducklings Expected delivery date 4/5: 5 Assorted Runners 15 Various Breeds The clerk said they aren't sexed and they don't know what breeds. Well... that's just a total crap shoot!

Okay, a few quick comments: 1) Muscovys sound like a good fit, but... um... not sure my wife will be a big fan of their looks. 2) Chel, you mentioned "hurding them" in at night. Will they not go into the coop at night like my chickens?

Hey Friends, We're still back and forth about the whole duck question: Should we get any? Also, if we decide to get ducks, do we go with the ones at the feed store, or hatch from eggs. There are pros / cons to both I think, but I guess it will come down to what breeds they have at the feed...

Wow, my wife posted... how cool is that? So, what's the most quiet breed of all? Keep in mind we are in a pretty busy city with close neighbors. They don't mind the chickens (so far) but a quacking duck might be over the top. I guess quiet ducks is priority 1, then ability to not have to...

Hey Friends, We were thinking about hatching duck eggs, or getting some ducklings from the feed store. My concern has always been having to change everything to accommodate a duck. I'm just too busy with the family, work, and everything BYC related to add much more new stuff to my workload...
