The tray I started last night soaked for over 24 hours. I'm anxious to see what the germination will be. The seeds just about absorbed all the water they were in, although I admit it's probably around 2 cups seeds and 3 cups of water in the soak bin.
I really need to get some of those bins! The seed starter trays are almost too big for the amount of seed I'm sprouting. Plus there is no stacking them. Good news is, now that they have a taste for the sprouts they are eating more of it.

Thoughts-
Germination/growth was ideal for this setup. Mat was thick enough to kinda hold together but also ripped apart easily. Chickens didn't attack it like I thought they would, but there is still a good amount of grass...
@WannaBeHillBilly here is a pic of the root mat in the tray I shared the picture of yesterday. It's easily 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick.
And a pic of another tray on day one. The seeds just filled the grooves plus a decent layer on top of the grooves.
Still thinking about reducing the amount of seeds...
Also, pretty sure I'm going to reduce the amount of seed in each tray to about half what I have in these. We'll see what this looks like on day 7 first.
I'm going with 7 days as my goal. Will see what it looks like at that point.
As per the unsprouted seed. I don't think the picture did a good job showing the growth. A lot of seed casings (for lack of the right word, chaff?) are laying on the top of the root mat.
I can't remember if it says...
This is the day 4 (5 if you count the 24 hour soak) tray. Mass is almost 3 times what I had on day one. So far no mold issues. Will set in a window later today to help with greening it up.
I would definitely recommend this one over this one https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/evolved-harvest-7-card-stud-full-season-forage?cm_vc=-10005 that one has coating on the smaller seeds. I tried it in the spring when I got my chicks to introduce them to foraging. While I loved the...
Without reading the whole thread. Just wanted to share what I am sprouting as my winter fodder. After 3 days I'm seeing lots of sprouts. My method has been - soak for 24 hours, rinse, put in trays, spritz with hydrogen peroxide, spritz daily with water (instead of drench and drain) cover with a...
