Yes, it can happen. I've mostly seen it in Black Sweds tho. Per Metzer Farms: to produce the blue color you must have heterozygote parents, meaning they have a black and a silver gene for feather color. I'm sure the green comes from the black gene.

Blackie and Blondie arrived this week I was shocked to see Blondie but after reading this post and checking out the pictures, I am relieved to see I do have two Sweds. Any chance Blondie will develop a bib as she grows?

    SWEDISH Duck Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't get over how beautiful they are. Where did you get them? You are very wise not to want a drake around. I was shocked at their aggression. We got rid of all our drakes but 1 Khaki Campbell. He's not as aggressive as the others were but he still gets on my nerves, lol.

Their bibs are very nice! We have just one black swede but she doesn't have a bib. She has very little white and she has a green sheen to her head. I believe the Black Swede drakes have more green to their heads. Definitely gorgeous!

    SWEDISH Duck Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are soooo cute! These are our first ducks so I really don't know how long it will take for the feathers to come back. These two had it so bad they would run 50+ yards away to escape from the other males. It was the saddest thing to see them stay that far away. They are coming back into...

Thank you. Her name is Boo. She was very timid and stand offish for the longest time. Definitely spoiled! She was a loner and went unnoticed by the boys until we got rid of 5 of them. It wasn't until our male Khaki's matured that she was noticed by the opposite sex, lol. Our Blue Sweds...

Her head actually has more of a green sheen to it. It doesn't show in this light. No worries offending me, lol... heck, she may not even be a Black Swed for all I know or care

O gosh, I'm not interested in showing either, lol but I thought I'd mention it... maybe the bib ratio determines if they are pure bred?? Here's a picture of our black Swed. It's not a good one because she is laying down but this is pretty much all the white she has.

cppeace, our Black Swed hen has very little white. I'm not sure if there is a certain amount of white required but I did read that if the bib goes completely around the neck they are not show quality. You did good by adding more hens

    SWEDISH Duck Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our first and only egg layer so far is one of our Blues. She started at 19 weeks. Every morning for a week now when I open the night pen there's just one egg. Everyone is the same age. I can't wait for the others to start.
