I just finished my bucket style no spill feeder. It is based on Aart’s design but with different inside parts. so far it is working great. My chicks are now about 7-8 weeks and they readily get food w/o spilling.

Thanks aart. That makes sense. I have to observe closely my chicks and decide how high from the floor the opening on the bucket can be. Of hand I would say it could be about 1.5”.
I will make another feeder (just a new 5 gallon bucket) when they become full grown (in size) and reuse the...
Hi Aart,
thanks again for your response and advise. One more question, for young chicks (RIR, Buff Orp, Barred rock and Australor), about 7 weeks old, is the depth of 3” (from the floor to the opening in the bucket) appropriate?
Thank you. I think I will start with 1” tall and 1” wide at the botto. I assume that would be adequate with chicken starter as well as the chicken maintenance feed.
I read your article, but didn’t see the size of the opening on the bottom of 2” pvc tube. Of hand, if in scale, it looks like being about 1” high.
is this about right?
Sorry aart, I meant to ask the cutout hight from the floor of the 5 gallon bucket. I can adjust the height of the whole feeder as my chicks grow, now they are about 6 weeks old.
