Thanka for all the info and yes, just a discussion not an argument at all :)
And thanks for the advice about how to treat the cockerels, that makes sense.
I guess it's just a matter of opinion then.
Personally I don't want a rooster to constantly harass my dog. That's not fair. He was here first and likes being outside.
And dogs are smart, they are perfectly capable of learning the rules and then following them without being harassed by a...
Also I will say that I'm not sure the domination stuff is the best or only way to go but I will look into it. Maybe the holding them thing would work and that i could try but idk, never letting them eat or crow or do anything near you seems kind of silly to me and I'm pretty sure the rooster...
Exactly.
All I meant was attacking a dog who is doing nothing wrong.
Attacking a dog who is doing something wrong, my dog or otherwise, or a coyote or whatever, is perfectly fine and encouraged and I think a rooster is perfectly capable of learning that.
Like teaching a dog what to bark at, etc.
Yeah but see that's different.
I think maybe there's just some misunderstanding or miscommunication here or something and we probably really do agree :P
A rooster going after a dog for doing something wrong or sending that stray away is different.
And the key word is wrong. Dog doing...
I guess so but aren't they smart enough to learn the difference between my dog and a different dog? Or to learn when to attack (if he did suddenly turn and go after the chickens) versus when not to like when he's not doing anything? I was more referring to the kind Eggsighted had said about...
That's good to know. Thanks
Yeah, that's what I was thinking of doing too. Not sure I could eat them haha but rehome or let someone else or something. They also have to not be dog aggressive
Hmmm, I hadn't really thought of that tbh haha
I guess I was just thinking of hatching soon and keeping the roos till I decide which one I like best?
Or I could keep them longer if I get no crow collars and build a bachelor pen lol
Yeah, I'm hoping to hatch some and maybe I'll see which roo...
Also, I'm thinking a Brahma roo might be too big?
And what are your thoughts on Speckled Sussex roos?
Or should I just grow a bunch out and see which one I like?
Sorry, I forgot to answer, as usual hahaha
Thank you all for your responses though and I'm definitely taking them into consideration :)
And oh yes, my girls can definitely be very loud and annoying too and so far the neighbors haven't complained lol they like to sing the egg song as soon as...
Yeah, I'm worried about being woken up early or in the middle of the night or them crowing too much during the day haha also worried about the neighbors hearing them and/or complaining. The coop is in the backyard and we have neighbors right behind us so it concerns me. Well, not like reach your...
I'm mostly just curious but also wondering for in case I ever add a rooster, which of those two breeds do you prefer?
I've heard the Brahmas are just like big gentle giants and usually good and/or friendly roos.
But then I just saw this ad and it mentioned how the EE's crow is better...
