Jack finally mated a hen today. :lau
Only his girlfriend/hatch mate Wilma but still.
Now if only he would crow and stop being scared of the other girls. :lau
But it’s a start lol
Funny story about Red. My hens have always been somewhat lazy butts and often sleep in pretty late, don’t usually lay until the afternoon, etc. Well, Red always crowed at exactly 5:45 (or sometimes 6) in the morning and got their lazy butts out of bed :lau 🤣🤣
Do Orpingtons take longer to mature than other breeds or is it just because the other boys were the dominant boys for so long that he hasn’t acted or?? Cause Jack is still terrified of the girls and doesn’t mate or even crow. Runs away if they look at him sideways. 😂🤣 not that I care or...
It definitely is. :( I loved him a lot but I’m pretty sure he had Marek’s and it progressed to where he couldn’t even really walk anymore so I decided to put him down
It is nice to see the girls gang up on him though and come to each other’s defense!
Hopefully he learns soon that there are better, easier ways to win the girls affections. :fl
The Welsummer is a little bit of a rapist 🙄 but the other hens always rush to each other’s defense when he does it and chase him off!! And he only goes after certain hens he knows won’t fight back. 🙄 runs from the others. If he is going after one and sees one he’s scared of, he’ll just keep...
And the hens and pullets I have are 2 Black Australorps, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Easter Eggers (all different looks and egg colors, one in particular is gorgeous IMO), White Leghorn, Delaware, Partridge Rock, Speckled Sussex, and the newest one is a Welsummer so he could produce about anything. :lau
