Definitely NOT an ancona. My guess would be swedish or a mix. Anconas should have more white than color and have speckled bills, legs & feet. I call my annies my dalmation ducks. That is the type of spotting desirable on an ancona.
Yes, ducklings can drown, especially when not with the momma. Baby ducks that are with momma get oil from her feathers until their oil gland starts to work. Until the oil gland starts to work, ducklings are not very waterproof & can get waterlogged quickly. A tired, waterlogged duckling will...
Not far from me. I'm just outside Cambridge, heading north up 77 tomorrow morning. I just moved from near Canton. My son is still up there & I still have stuff to move.
If you want good anconas in a variety of colors I can personally recomend @minihorse927, @eggorthechicken & @sarasweatman
All 3 have excellent birds & their eggs hatch very well.
Not sure where you pulled the quote from, but yes, this thread is for Ancona ducks. Some people take that to extremes, but most of us have no problem with other breeds coming into the conversation at times. You just have to kinda overlook the uptight people at times.
@minihorse927, @sarasweatman & @eggorthechicken all have very nice quality anconas, wide variety of colors & can ship hatching eggs & sometimes babies. Check with any of them for eggs or birds.
No, drake was from a breeder out of state & hen came from a swap meet at Mt Hope last summer. Both are good breeder quality.
@LacrystolPM me if you are interested in them. I only have the 1 pair left on calls, and a pair of pilgrims. Also have a trio of blue slates & an extra royal palm hen if...
I'm looking at getting out of ducks. I have 5 anconas to sell if anyone is interested.
Blue drake
Chocolate drake
Chocolate hen
2 black hens (1 lays lavender/grey eggs)
I also have 2 call ducks (grey hen, snowy drake) to part with & a pair of pilgrim geese.
Sounds like they are getting picked. Try putting blu-kote ovee the raw areas to hide them until the feathers grow in. If that doesn't work, you will probably need to separate them for a week or so to allow the feathers to come in.
Every dog is diferent. The key is finding a puppy to raise with your birds & train them how to act around the birds from day 1. Most dogs will take lots of interaction with you & the birds to learn the rules. Be prepared to rehome a dog & start over if their personality is just not compatible...
The bird on the right has very nice markings. Front left is over marked & back left is under marked. These can still produce nice babies, but be aware you will also have some with both extremes in the markings.
I have noticed with my anconas that there is a pretty distinct voice difference from day 1 with my ducklings. It has taken a few years to pick up on the difference & I've listened to a lot of ducklings peep in that time. I listen to them in groups of 3-4 to be able to compare birds easier. The...
