Glad you're okay! About 9 years ago we lost power for 23 hrs and my basement flooded. That was definitely a bad day.

The one thing I can't decide with the clear tarp though is if I want several smaller ones so they are secured in more places or as large as I can so there are fewer seams for wind or precipitation to seep in. I need 5'x25' in coverage and they don't make one that long so 5x20 + 5x5 is an...

And NOW I am so hungry!!!!!!!!!! Those look amazing!!!!!!! I've found a few clear tarps on Amazon but haven't narrowed down the right one yet in terms of size and weatherproofing. Found the perfect size but it's only weatherproof to 14* so that won't do. Found ones that go much colder but...

I was originally thinking zip ties because I have about a metric 🤬 ton of them but bought a mess of the clips to see if they hold. I saw those ball bungees though. They look cool, I just wondered if it's more give than I want with as windy as it gets. May end up back buying those instead. LOL!

Just really high wind here last night. But the afternoon rain was pretty dramatic. Lots of standing water. You know it's bad when I bring in the flag and cushions. LOL!! Of course, everything survived last night just fine and then this morning, the plastic sheeting over my run ripped. I...

33 in the brooder is a good start! What kind do you have in there? I was thinking if I got a small ferret cage, I could brood chicks in the house in that and then move it to the coop for the "look but don't touch" transition. And then I said "What are you THINKING!?!?! You said no more...

I cannot tell you how many times I have had to talk myself out of chicks and other animals in the last couple of weeks. Spring is hard!!!!! Deliberately waited until Ludwigs was out of chicks to go get feed last weekend. Needed some other stuff so I went to TSC because I am MUCH less likely...

I don't but I may start. Especially tomatoes because I would definitely use those all winter for pasta sauce or chili for sure. I think with the zucchini I just don't get enough out of it to justify the rash. Plus those suckers just take over and kill my other plants if I don't keep them...

I need to re-think what I plant this year. Every year I tell myself to plant fewer zucchini and every year I still plant too many. I am thinking I may plant 1 this year. I give most of it away because I don't eat very much of it and my hands break out from it. Maybe none? I think I'll plant...

According to Dr. Google, chickens can become infected with it but will not suffer any actual symptoms or develop the disease. Their immune system knocks it out before it can do any damage. Magical little creatures!

You guys may know this but I am a HUGE Disney fan and go there as often as I can. I knew Disneyland has resident cats that help curb their mouse problem but I recently found out something really cool about Disney World. They keep random flocks of chickens all around the property. They are...

We got a tiny blanket of snow. The giant flakes were so pretty and it was just enough to cover the ground and then melt within a day. Can't really complain about that! I brood inside because I don't have electricity in the coop for a heat source. I did let a broody raise 3 in the coop but it...

I'm so grateful I finally got my coop MOSTLY water tight with all this rain but the wind has done a number on my tarp. I hate to waste time and effort fixing it now when it's coming off soon, but it makes so much noise out there flapping around that I may have to.

That's my cousin! They are family owned since 1972. I grew up playing on that farm, learned to drive on it and a lot of other things. They'll have chicks next week too if anyone is looking.

A few of the zip ties on my tarp ripped off but I'm not even bothering to re-secure since it will only be another month before I take it off. But I am irritated with tomorrow's weather. I just re-attached my hose yesterday so I could use the jet spray to clean the waterer. It was getting...

Hey all! I've been MIA since before the holidays with a hefty plate but trying to get my stuff together now and be a normal human again. Or at least something that resembles is. LOL!!! My ladies have been laying really well since their winter break ended. I know the world is short of eggs...

That's not a bad idea! Need to find poles to hang it. Or I can re-purpose my garden frames. I sunk PVC in bucks of concrete to hold up a frame for tomatoes and since I won't need that again until spring, it could do double duty. Just need to buy some top pieces to hold the cord but it could...

It's about 30 or 40 feet from the nearest outlet. That would probably work once there is snow covering it but I worry they'd still trip over it and rip it out before then. Also, do the chickens bother it once it's in the run?
