Yup! Watching it rain, sunny, rain, sunny then rain and sun here in Redmond.

Redmond is just lightly raining. However I get to be bored at work, selling cowboy boots to non-existent customers! How exciting is that! I could be at home painting the new coop we are building or finishing the fence around my garden. Or playing with my chicks. But no I am here.

Okay, so I'm not crazy. What's so hard about cleaning the regular ones? Soap, water, scrub brush! I just have a hard time picturing a chicken understanding how to drink from a nipple. Unless I'm not picturing the correct thing? Just curious!

I grew up having chickens. My whole life my family has used chicken waters that are 5 gallon bucket you then tip over and the tray on the bottom fills. Now I am hearing about nipple waterers. What is the advantage of these?

We have the PetSafe invisible fence system that marks out our 7 acres. I think I can buy a remote for our collars though as PetSafe made them dual use. The elk thing is a good point. We live on Indian Hill in Snoqualmie, we have LOTS of elk passing through. My husband if originally from...

Thanks! We are the final home for both dogs, so it's been interesting retraining them from old habits. Minnie was easy as she was only two when we got her. Mandy however, we have had for 3 months now, but has 6 years of terrible habits to over come! I'll just keep exposing them to the...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have an unrealistic goal of our dogs not thinking the chickens are food. I have hope though because both dogs were formerly "city dogs" and don't always understand that farm animals are mostly harmless. Minnie (dog in the pictures) is a 2 year old lab/ border collie mix and Mandy is a 6 year...

We are in the midst of building our coop. We are making much larger than necessary as well as building it in such a way that if we want to expand we can. BGMatt is very wise in suggesting lots of air flow, as well as no insulation. My parents built there's with insulation, which the rats...

Thanks you for the suggestion! My Mom has had fryer chicks die that way, so she bought a super shallow waterer. This is the same one just new. Its less than half an inch deep, and doesn't even come half way up beaks on the bantams. I've never seen the nipple waterers. For the adult chickens...

Thanks! I'm super annoyed that I only go to spend the morning with them before I went to work.... 3pm cannot come fast enough!

My Chick's came today!! I ordered the from mypetchicken.com, and went with the assortments. I got 5 "Brown Egg Layer's" and 3 "assorted Silkie's" I can't wait until they grow up enough that I know what they are! I know two of the Silikes are buff, but the third I "think" is going to be...

Thanks! Thats kinda what I thought, but my husband is originally from Albany, NY. When he thinks winter, he thinks snow! Even though he has lived here for 6 years now, he still forgets that its on the mild side. He's also a city person, so the whole "we own animals" thing is still very new...

My husband and I have started to build our first coop. What we can't decide is if we should insulate the coop or not. My parents insulated theres many years ago and are now regretting it, as the rats have taken up residence in the insulation. Living here in the northwest we don't have...
