That’s interesting and makes sense.
Thank you for that info it answers some things I did wonder about,
Then I agree castor is black agouti plus Rufus
that was not how it was explained to me unfortunately
Steels is caused by the steel gene.
Yes they should know what is showable and isn’t but a pet quality Rex is still called a rex if you take a bad quality castor or as you call it a chestnut and keep the redder ones you can in years get showable castors.
I will not argue with you anymore.
I would argue that it is castor but not showable castor all most all colours are not showable if you start mixing them.
you are correct about the chinchilla I missed that, but they still look like black agoutis to me since they look slightly brown
So the kits can be
Black agouti called castor in rexs or chestnut in most other breeds
AaBbCc^chdB-E-
black self
aaBbCc^chdB-E-
if he is otter
Black otter
a^taBbCc^chdB-E
if the doe carries chocolate then you can get chocolate version of all of these.
And all of them may be broken or not
Your buck is self broken chocolate Unless he is otter
His genotype is
aabbC-D-E- Or
a^tabbC-D-E-
a because he is self
a because he would not be self if he had anything else
b because he is chocolate
b because if he had any thing else he would not be chocolate
C because Because heis not...
Your does is black agouti with the chinchilla gene which gets ride of the yellow pigment
So her genotype Is
AaB-c^chd-D-E-
A because she is agouti
a because the offspring get one gene per allele from each parent
B because she is black
- because I don’t now if she carries chocolate
c^chd...
Black is dominant so they need one to show
Chocolate is recessive so they need two to show
B= black gene
b= chocolate gene
So your buck is bb
His siblings are probably Bb
Otter is made with the tan gene its is on the same allele as self and agouti
Agouti is dominant
tan is recessive to agouti...
