    Fowl mites under control ?

@Wyorp Rock @aart If your infestation is as bad as that I would defer to the folks above. They have experience in more traditional treatments and I trust their advice.

    Fowl mites under control ?

Update on mites: after one WILD day on the farm I am happy to report that our flock still remains mite free. We have long since stopped all DE application (would have to read back in thread to remember exactly how long ago the application stopped). I would consider this medium term reporting...

    Fowl mites under control ?

Update: we haven’t seen a mite since Dec. we closely inspect birds and coop every night using a very bright headlamp and paper towels (stain check on roosts). We are now directly applying DE with Harris puffer every 2-3 nights. We have decided to hold off on ivermectin drench at this time as we...

    Fowl mites under control ?

Hi again Aart!! Thanks for your post. We actually had a hard time finding the pour-on to put topically on their skin. The pour on and drench are two very different products, and since it was hard for us to find the pour-on we had to go with the drench formula. I started this thread to document...

    Fowl mites under control ?

Hi Aart!! We shall see how this goes! I will keep you posted. Ivermectin to ensure multi-generational coverage for mites. Two pronged approach seems reasonable. Why is drench in quotes? Ivermectin is many times given as a drench in drinking water. Our plan is to administer over 2 days in one...

    Fowl mites under control ?

Thanks Wyorp!! No, I have not applied DE to coop since this specific mite spends its life on the chicken. Have directly applied DE to vents and underneath wings total of about 5 times so far using a DE applicator (every day to every other day). This has really minimized the overall amount of DE...

    Fowl mites under control ?

Tonight’s update: the vet just checked out the flock. She found NO MITES!!! I have been applying DE directly to vents/under wings. Vet agreed no infestation at this point, and could not find mites in coop. It’s nighttime now. When the mites were at their worst, there were mites swarming vents...

Tonight’s update: have been directly applying DE to vents and under wings nightly with the Harris puffer. Tonight there were NO mites on any vents, on or under roosts, or in cracks or crevasses. I looked VERY carefully using a bright headlamp. No mites on necks/backs/chests/bellies. No scabby or...

    Fowl mites under control ?

And aart thank you so much for taking your time to help I really ALWAYS appreciate your advice!! But this time, the dust seems like a risk to human health I can’t take. Even reading this https://nj.gov/health/eoh/rtkweb/documents/fs/3422.pdf warns not to sweep it, cautions that it has shown to...

    Fowl mites under control ?

Cleaned out bedding and put DE down. It’s below freezing here so we worry about applying the water based pesticides, they won’t dry, just freeze. Dusting with pesticides makes me really nervous about prolonged airborne permethrin. What do you think? Thank you for your help. ☺️

    Fowl mites under control ?

Thank you so much! If it was warm here that’s what I would do, just dip them all and clean/spray coop, but there’s no place for wet chickens right now. I worry about the permethrin dust being airborne. Any tips for dipping them when it’s below freezing? I’ve been racking my brain over this...

    Fowl mites under control ?

Hi friends! I am posting to let folx know (and to get feedback on) a method that I’ve been using to control mites. We’ve been battling these mites for a couple of months. Tried dusting whole flock with DE, one bird at a time in pillowcase (with birds head OUT of course), cleaned all...
