Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Thank you! This is what I've been thinking with mine, and though I love my local feed store and have gotten stellar chicks from them before, my most recent batch has had problems. I suspect genetic/breeding issues, as I lost this one at a year and a half, then shortly after, one of her "sisters"...

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Thank you! All my birds have access to a whole lot of grit, but this group of young'uns seemed to think from day one that wood shavings (bedding) were a good thing to eat, and they sometimes binge on it as though it were grit. I always shoo them away when I see that behavior, and my other birds...

WARNING, GRAPHIC NECROPSY PHOTOS First off, I attempted to alert readers that this post contains graphic necropsy photos, but did not find a way to change my post title, so there's my best shot. Okay, here's the nitty gritty. Sorry about this for all who offered to help me make sense of the...

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Okay, thank you. Worth a try. It won't be as effective a learning experience sounds like, but if there's something big to see I should be able to find it. Ugh. Thanks again, and if you're still interested in photos I'll plan to take them. Oh, and the other ladies in my flock look great so far...

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Thank you for the link! I will be doing my own this time. I wanted to refrigerate, but I will be gone for three days then working long hours the rest of the week. Sounded iffy in the fridge! I took some superficial photos before putting her in, but I'll have to take what I can get this go round.

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Oh dear, I'm sorry everyone, she just went. I'm going to freeze her and look into this. Idgy was such a toughie! When she was two weeks old she was sitting right up against her "predator safe" pen when a hawk attacked the fence and scratched her right through it. One of her air sacs was...

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Thank you much! I'm very willing to learn more from these losses to help the future ones. As life would have it, I work 12 hours tomorrow then am heading out of town! I've got someone who can take care of her, but if she doesn't make it I don't know that I'll be able to investigate further.:(...

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Side note: I kinda feel like a dolt for forgetting to mention this, but I lost a different bird a few months ago. She was an 8-year-old Easter egger with a history of spotty laying, and I had a feeling something reproductive might get her, so I watched her pretty carefully year to year. One day...

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

I might have an old one somewhere, but not usually. And thank you. :hugs I'm about to bring her in, because it's too hot outside for a sick bird, and the other ladies are getting in the way of her care. :barnie

There are vets in the area that would probably see a chicken, but that isn't an option for me at this time. I'm going to throw my best at her and see if I'm in time!

Oh yeah, I also have injectable Tylan 50, but its expiration date was 3 years ago.

Powder. She just got excited about cooked egg with electrolytes in it, but could only handle a few bites before losing her appetite again. Her comb looks more pale now, something I hadn't noticed before, but she's still grooming herself. She's always been a fighter!:love

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

Thanks so much for the help. She made it from her water dish to where she's been resting the last few days, her safe place. Here is a poop she just made. Her comb IS actually pale compared to her other ladies, and she's very sleepy, but still holding her head and tail up when awake. Not looking...

Hen separating herself, not eating, yellow poop with some blood and LOTS of plant matter

I just went out to get her weight for the Corid and she had come out and was lying by the water bowl drinking. But she seems to have at least temporarily lost the aibility to stand once she made it to the water dish. She just stayed collapsed while I took her weight, and she's a little under 3...
