Preparing for threats of an intervention

I'm guessing based upon their combs... Even though I've got a couple different breeds among the 5 chicks (Marans, Silverudd, Ameraucanas), all of them seem to be developing red combs pretty early. I've always thought that males develop red combs early while females tend to stay pale pink.

Preparing for threats of an intervention

I'm pouting. And I'm sure my DH (who was AGAINST me getting more hatching eggs) is going to say it's my just rewards.....:old But of the FIVE viable chicks I hatched out of my Rainbow eggs (12 ordered), every single one of them is a rooster. Every. last. one. :hit What are the odds?

Preparing for threats of an intervention

There were 6 chicks total who hatched out of 12. I had to cull 1 this morning because it was born with its intestines hanging out. 😔 Of the 5 remaining, I put two under a broody and kept 3 indoors to hand raise. Here are the 3 which are indoors -

Preparing for threats of an intervention

Today is HATCH DAY!! :celebrate Candled at Day 7 and 11 of 12 were fertile. By the time I entered lockdown, 9 of 12 eggs were viable. Not bad. I attribute that to the great packaging care for shipment. As of this morning, one chick has hatched. Two more are pipped. Another is zipping as...

Preparing for threats of an intervention

Just thought I'd let everyone know who might be curious about the Rainbow eggs. I'm on Day 10 and just candled them for the first time. Some of the olive eggers are exceptionally hard to see because of their coloring but I THINK 11 out of 12 eggs are fertile and growing. The only egg that...

Preparing for threats of an intervention

I paid $45/dz and then $20 shipping fee which was sent Priority Mail so $65 total. The eggs I received were marked with a letter on the end. I figured this was in relation to the breed, but I asked for clarification. This is what she said: For the letters, they're to let me know which coop...

Preparing for threats of an intervention

I ordered from https://www.eggcartonsonline.com/ but I only buy my 18-ct from here. The 12-ct I get locally from TSC because they are super cheap there. I typically pay $.48/carton plus tax which rounds up to about $.50/carton. However, I am ALSO a reduce-reuse-recycle person. We have FAR...

Preparing for threats of an intervention

I get my dozen count cartons for about $.50 each. The 18 count are more like $.70 each. So that has to be factored into the cost. I currently sell my eggs for $3/dz or $4/18 ct. But I give $.25 discount to anyone who brings me cartons. I will use/take any cartons I can get but, technically...

Preparing for threats of an intervention

ha ha...yeah, mine likes to give away eggs. I've had to remind him that I have to PAY for egg cartons so at a minimum he could at least ask for a $1 or something to cover that cost. He just keeps reminding me that you need a state license to own chickens once you reach 100 chickens. Lol...I...

Preparing for threats of an intervention

@jolenesdad gave me the contact info so I could reach out to them directly, but from what I've gathered, they do business through a Facebook site. I don't have Facebook. Here is their Instagram site - https://www.instagram.com/spitzbroshomestead/ I'll also add that they provided me with a...

Preparing for threats of an intervention

First off, I blame @jolenesdad for this thread.... 😂 I participated in the Chicken Poop Bingo contest and was so enthralled by the Rainbow eggs that I *HAD* to get some. Let me say that I am SUPER IMPRESSED by the care that was put into packaging and protection of these hatching eggs. I have...
