    Chantecler Thread!

So I just checked on the chicks. There is one perched on the edge of the drop board, the rest in a jumble on the floor. On a previous hatch I had to move the chicks from their jumble to the roosts to change that behavior, looks like I may have to do that again.

The integration process proceeds. I will have to check tonight and see if the chicks are trying to sleep on the main roosts.

As am I. Also surprised at their size, at least half of my Barred Rock and mixed breeds in less than two months. I follow @aart 's integration guidelines (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/integrating-chicks-into-flock-at-4-weeks-old.1159151/), have done so several times. This...

I see the wink showing your comment meant to bring a chuckle; I chuckled... The one in the run is my granddaughter, she was feeding sunflower seeds to the flock.

My chicks are now 7 weeks and integrated with the main flock. This morning I went to collect eggs and feed/water. One of the pullets has ventured into the run; guessing it was being harassed so it found a place to hide. I lifted it down and back to the coop.

The breeder I got my original Chanteclers from cited their calm demeaner, including roosters, during my pick-up visit. He maintains that bad behaviour in a Chantecler is a consequence of owner's behaviour. So far that is my experience; I have eighteen adult birds, twelve 6 week old chicks, one...

This post is about one of my Chant chicks but is probably generic to all breeds. My 12 chicks will be 5 weeks old this Sunday; I started the flock integration process at 4 weeks 2 days. The first couple of days they pretty much stayed in one back corner except to eat and drink. As mentioned...

The picture in the post above does not show color differences very well. The chicks are now a mix of white on wings and the yellow they were born with on remaining visible chick fuzz. The differences between pure yellow and those with a darker hue when born are much less pronounced. I think I...

Recently hatched 13, now 12, white Chantecler chicks. Some were pure yellow, others had a darker hue. Genetic differences I have read. Is there a Standard based preference for chick coloring? My 12 yesterday, white wing feathers coming in.

Good white Chanteclers show males early, 6-8 weeks one is usually able to tell by wattles/comb.

These are from a group of 5 White Chanteclers I picked up on Jan 3rd. @Egghead_Jr has pointed out a preference for rectangular body shapes in dual purpose birds; he used his Partridge Chant above as an example. My cockerel and one of the pullets. Any all comments of their conformance to SOP...
