Wet and Dry Fowl Pox - Graphic Pictures of Pus and Scabs

Nobody's giving honey to babies, lol. And ya, the point of using honey is that it's NOT sterile. The healing happens from all the goodies in honey. :) But it has to be real, unpasteurized honey; not yhe fake knockoff stuff from China, etc. Yes, raw honey is spendy, but worth every penny...

Just because folks have been using it for eons doesn't make it good or right or even the best option. Folks have been using peroxide forever; now we know not to because it kills living tissue, too. Anybody who has animals should have a first aid kit that's properly stocked. Doesn't mean they...

Neosporin should *not* go into the eyes. Vetericyn has an ophthalmic ointment. Only use treatments designed specifically for eyes in the eyes.

Who knows. It could have been numerous things. The only way to know for sure is to have a necropsy done. Some states do free necropsies- check with your local extension office for details.

Some breeds yes, if you know what you're looking for. Most breeds no, though, since it's still pretty early for crowing. Silkies and brahmas- not really. I'd wait until they were crowing or laying eggs to write anyone off for sure. ...

I like the pump spray as opposed to aerosol. The pump is more controled, even though it still gets messy. Blu Kote is great stuff- not just anti-fungal, but also antiseptic. Great wound cover to disguise and discourage picking.

Dry pox I would leave alone- no need to open them up and potentially expose a wound to bacteria. The only exception would be something scratching the eye. Wet pox is a whole other beast, though...

We are doing well overall. None of the LFs or guineas have gotten it (knock on wood) and my boy silkies seem to be the only bantams affected. It seems to be much milder on the others than it was on poor Orangey. I am so thankful it stayed dry.
