@azygous I know I updated this thread a long time ago, and she's still alive... right in time for winter.
She doesn't seem completely well, though. This summer, she started having diarrhea, and I just never really tried to cure it (I give her Big ole Bird probiotic regularly, but...
Update: Her crop every morning is just a tiny lump of grass, which I am not that worried about because the food and nutrients can go down. Because she's getting the nutrients, she is no longer lethargic. I guess I can say she's basically recovered, except for her strange appetite. I just found...
Update: I think her intestines are clearing out. :)
She just pooped, and there was stuff. I think it was dirt and grass. I'll keep this thread updated.
Well, even though I knew it was too late, yesterday I took her to the vet to see if there was anything to be done. They said they would wash out her crop and try to get it moving, and today I received the news: they couldn't get anything out and her crop and gizzard AND intestines were stuffed...
I've done almost everything. I feed two teaspoons of coconut oil a day, stool softener, massage, but it's not just the crop that's stuck. The oil also comes out in her poop, along with the bile and maybe a tiny piece of grass or something she ate.
I've just given her stool softener mixed with...
Update: she seemed pretty lethargic today.
I don't think it's just her crop that's stuck. I feel like maybe her gizzard is impacted, or somewhere inside that's stuck. I don't think after 19 days of treatment it is just the crop that's impacted.
Her stool is completely dark green, even the...
@azygous, I need some desperate help. It doesn't seem like she's getting better, and the more time this takes, the worse she is. This is a detailed description of her current health.
Appearance: Her comb has shriveled and some of it is purple. She is very skinny, and since she got an impacted...
I change the "frequently reaching back" part to occasionally. I'm not sure I have the vitamin E 400iu.
So this is what I am going to do for her tomorrow:
- feed her boiled and raw egg
- feed her coconut oil and stool softener and massage her
- give her water
- offer yogurt
- feed her BoB with...
Oh my, another problem? :thIs it because of the lack of nutrients and vitamins?
She doesn't lose balance, but she does jerk her neck a bit sometimes. I'll feed her some boiled egg tomorrow.
She hasn't laid an egg for roughly a month now, probably because of the cold weather and her crop...
I forgot to add, she recently started frequently turning her head and reaching for her back, but not grooming her feathers. It's hard to describe, but I think it's related to her crop problems.
I agree with the starving, but not the "too weak to eat and drink". She is tired more than often, but she can definitely eat and drink fine. I'll offer yogurt and soft boiled egg tomorrow. I'm not sure she'll eat it, but I'll try.
Here's some pictures. I figured it took me long enough to send you some pics.
The poop is recent. The first one is just bile. Don't worry, this is the only poop with just bile that she pooped today.
Her comb has significantly shriveled in these past weeks.
The third pic has some stuff in the...
She just doesn't drink water. I bet if I locked her in a space and put food and water, I'd bet she'd thirst herself to death.
Is this some kind of hormone or is it just because her crop is still stuck. Is there any way to make her drink water without forcing it?
Update: her poop is declining. Yesterday night, when I massaged her crop, she pooped. Today, from 5 pm to now, she's only pooped twice. I fed her Biology Optimized for Birds, or BOB, which includes probiotic supplements. Yesterday night I fed her that too and she pooped a lot. Her crop is not...
These past 3 days, her poop has stuff in it. Sometimes grass and seeds, but her crop hasn't gone down and she doesn't drink water anymore.
She thirsts herself, even if there is a container full of fresh, clean water right next to her, so I pour the water onto the ground and she drinks it.
She...
