It's normal to have some egg waste still attached. That looks significantly more involved. Possible unabsorbed intestines. Definitely do a separate post if you haven't already. That chick needs extra help.
That's disappointing. Did you buy them as hatching eggs or table eggs? If you bought them as hatching eggs a refund or replacement is in order.
I've inquired after or purchasing some questionable hatching eggs I never make assumptions. Not saying you do just sharing my experience. One guy was...
They chirp when they've internally pipped. You should have an external pip by later today/tomorrow. Then a chick the day after that. It's always a good sign to hear chirping.
Are you confident about your dates?
Oh man. You're asking some fantastic and extremely difficult questions. This is the line where incubation splits from science and becomes instinct or feel. Only you can decide what's best for this hatch.
I felt for a long time I got slightly better results incubating upright. Like an extra...
That's incredibly frustrating. Shipping is such a gamble right now. Way more than in previous years. I had some in transit for 10 days last month. Only 2/12 developed, 1 chick hatched. I hope these eggs arrive intact. Maybe you can still get a couple of chicks out of them.
I have a very bright light, 1250L. If you catch yourself in the eye with the beam it's like looking at the sun. Someone here on BYC mentioned micro USB rechargable flashlights. That was a total game changer for me. If you're hatching regularly a good flashlight is indispensable.
Anything 700+...
It's only day 2/3 but I like to take a guess at fertility early on. I don't pull any eggs till day 7-10 but it helps me learn.
4/5 Leghorn and 9/12 shipped eggs have development! Guesses on the remaining 4 eggs are 2 infertile and 2 maybes.
I actually found a keet running across the road once. Totally random. Our neighbor has a flock of guineas they free-range. Must have come from those. I returned it to her. She verified it was a keet and kept it to raise. There was absolutely no other birds, mother or keets, around when we found...
I'm in! I started 17 eggs yesterday. 12 shipped mixed breeds and 5 local Leghorns. Hatch date is 3/4.
The shipped eggs were picked up from my PO almost exactly 48 hours after shipping. Just 72 hours, or less, after being laid. I have high hopes for a great hatch from them.
