Just a heads up. I was just looking at the Aphis site and looked at the wild bird confirmations. The cases in Massachusetts are primarily in Barnstable County.
Where are you located? There’s cases of it all over the world. It’s spread by migratory birds. The cases in Massachusetts were at the end of March in Berkshire County @Dreammaker. There was a confirmation in a Canadian goose in Middlesex County prior to that. This should be winding down soon...
There are very precise instructions on the Aphis website regarding bio security for your flock. Primarily, keeping your flock in a secure covered coop and run are the first thing to do. Make sure there is no way for any wild birds to make contact with your flock. I only cautioned you about news...
You might want to check that news story closely @CKfarm22. I googled bird flu in New Jersey and found a story on a NJ news website reporting on the bird flu detected in Texas. Hopefully that’s what you saw.
I suggest keeping your birds on lockdown and checking the Aphis website tomorrow. It was updated today so any new confirmed detections will appear there. There have been a few local news broadcasts out of Boston, but the closest case was near the NY / Massachusetts border. There’s also a bogus...
Sorry I don’t do FB. Was this a post from an official in your area or a user? There is a 24 to 48 hour lag on the Aphis website. My DD tries to monitor our local FB group and there are very few official reports. You can go to the Aphis website and they list bio security procedures to protect...
Are you getting information from the CDC or local officials? Basically for all poultry is to prevent contact from wild birds that maybe carrying the virus.
Keep your flock under cover where wild birds can’t access them. The pathogens are spread through their feces or contact with infected birds. I’m curious as when it was confirmed in your area. I haven’t seen anything from NJ posted on the Aphis site?
