Update: Got Doodle back outside today! She seems to be doing well, and is back to her normal, bossy, hungry, hysterical self. In these last few days I've been checking her crop each morning. Seems to be emptying well overnight with no issues. I've been feeding her twice daily, and gave her some...
Okay, those were my thoughts as well. Especially with windchill.
Okay good. I'll check again tomorrow to, but since its such a small amount I'm not to concerned. Thanks everyone for all the help, I really appreciate it. :)
Our internet is back on, took long enough. ;)
I checked this morning before I fed her, but she does have access to water so maybe its not super accurate. There was a little but of something in her crop. I think I exaggerated how big is was in yesterday post. Its not that much, but I could feel...
Thank you! Darn, I feel your pain! Done boat over here.
Electrolytes, Nutri-drench and sugary warm fluids really seemed to help Doodle. Are you able to get your girl to take some of that? I hope she improves, sending good luck!
Darn chickens are do good at getting into trouble aren’t they?
Update: Doodle is doing great today! I gave her some boiled rice and 20% feeds from she was happy to gobble it down. She’s been drinking lots of water, and seems to be acting normal.
Her crop didn’t empty completely overnight. There was still a big if feed in it this morning. Maybe about the...
Cool, I’ll try a big of corn tonight, but won’t feed to much due to the low nutrition.
I have considered fermenting my feed in the past, but never ended up looking into it. I’ll have to read up on it more at least for the winter. I’ve fermented vegetables for my dogs before, it’s definitely a...
Awesome, I'll add this to my chicken schedule for her. :D I'm glad that this was mentioned, because now that I'm hearing it, it makes perfect sense.
I've also read opposing opinions on whether of not feeding scratch in the evening helps keep birds warm overnight. Is this true/would it...
Thank you! This is very helpful. :)
in the afternoon's, I've been feeding 3/4c of wet feed. I have been offering veggies/greens often, but not everyday. Your post makes perfect sense. She's definitely a big gall with a large crop. ;) She got a large meal today, and I'll go back to twice a day...
Thank you! I'm glad as well. :)
Yes, for a while I did feed her twice a day, but eventually I got lazy and only feed her once a day. Should I go back to twice? It worked well in the summer since I could let her and Smudge out and they would go forage since they were hungry. Maybe go back to...
Any thoughts? I thought I'd put this link here instead of tagging anyone.
Frostbite on Serama roosters comb, its never ending today.

I gave her an egg not to long ago. I'll do some after we make dinner, I can make some for all of us then. Fluids are available and she's very willing to drink, its so cute watching chickens sleep. 😁
Doodle is still resting by the fire. Seems happy, and twitches her head/clucks every now and then. ❤️ I've picked her up and moved her over to the water a few times, and she takes big sips of both electrolyte and plain water. I'll move her into the storage room this evening, and give her another...
Got it. I not think I'm comfortable putting her back outside today anyway, so I'll probably have her in the storage room for at least tonight. She can stay in there as long as she has to, but I don't want her to loose her cold heartiness either. Now that she finished her food, she's tucked up...
Perfect! We have a storage room in our garage that I can keep her in. It has a thermostat I can set as well. I'll set up a large dog crate in there once she's back to normal.
She's currently being talkative and complaining that I took her food away. I want her to clean up what I spilled on the...
Made a mash with the rest of the sugar water. I made 1/2c, she drank 1/4, now using the other 1/4 for the mash. Her poop is more and more solid, and she just jogged across the room to get the mash from me. She's eating slowly, and slobbering some, but seem's to be doing much better. Pupils are...
So take her back outside after she's been in for a bit? Should I be concerned about her getting hypothermia again? Its supposed to be 13 degree's tonight, going to 26 tomorrow during the day. 11 Tuesday night, and rising after that. Currently 18 degrees now.
Her poops are becoming more and more...
Update: She is drinking, not sure if I can get her to drink enough though. I'll keep working at it. If I can't get her to drink the whole 1/4c, do I need to tube feed?
Thanks @aart, I'll do some electrolyte water as well.
She just had a small, green, semi watery poop after eating.
Still...
Thank you @azygous! Just mixed up some sugar water with Nutri-drench. I don't have tube feeding supplies though I keep meaning to get some. We do have thin garden tubing, so I may be able to use that if she wont drink on her own. I think I can dip her beak and get her to drink enough though...
