I have had no frostbite issues with my ADULT birds.
Only my chicks- which is understandable in -50F temps.

I will add those hens were given to me this spring, they had frostbite previous to my ownership of them.
But, this is off topic and disrespectful to the OP.

Oh for sure, cold is a factor, but it's not the deciding factor. Humidity in -20 temps would cause frostbite... -20 isn't super cold... A dry coop is key :)
I doubt it is frostbite, although the ice ball makes me nervous. How far below freezing did it get? Mine have been in -50 F temps, so I don't think the cold would affect her as badly as you suspect.
