I wouldn't mind having a muscovy or 2 to eat the summer flies. They always seem a bit snappy, mean-ish, like geese. Have you found that? Maybe it's the stories from my mom about her childhood muscovy and how it would bite her dog and hang on to his lips! Dog would swing him around and he'd still...
EEs and Wellies are favorites of mine. The Wellsummers can be pretty vocal and mine have both gotten significant spurs, but other than that, I really like them.
Muscovies and Pekins mixed up? I guess when they're babies it would be hard to tell. :idunno Call ducks a very noisy and they fly, but...
I think most kids do. Lot of them have lost ground this year.
I know a 2nd grade teacher who had to do remote classes and half her students' parents are not English speakers. Very difficult.
We are happy about it, especially since I took 2 dozen over to my dad today. He likes his eggs!
Plenty left for us.
Does Duckling help with the collecting?
Is she doing online school?
Tough decision. The AK Blues and especially the PPs are so pretty. PPs lay brown eggs?
I wonder if they are bred a bit better and you won't run into all the reproductive problems the hatchery hens tend to have.
You know you want to hatch. :D
They can be so sneaky!
Speaking of sneaky, a neighbor called to report a probable coyote siting near the area up by the new pullets. :barnie
He wasn't 100% sure what he saw, but the pullets were yelling at the time. We've been here for 20 yrs and no one has ever reported a coyote down in the...
Did you decide to get some pullets?
We got 10 eggs yesterday! All 5 of the old mob (that are capable) laid and 5 more from the new pullets. It's a record for us!
Belated happy birthday!
I read an interesting article about a hen becoming paralyzed from being egg bound. It made me think of Rumples. I wonder if that's what happened to her. Egg presses on a nerve in the pelvis causing (usually temporary) paralysis.
Egg-bound chicken causing obturator...
Congrats on the new place! Does off grid mean we won't be hearing from you any more? Hope not!
Covid free here. Hubs has been working from home since last March. He saves over an hour every day without the drive... the silver lining.
