I pay $16 for 40# just 3 miles from home.. ...probably wouldn't use the stuff if I had to pay shipping.

It's what I, and most, use. ~$16 for 40#...so $0.40 per lb...but I buy local so no shipping costs.

Since you're going with poop boards: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/feedback-for-8x8-coop-inside-layout.1224022/ You might consider shavings on the floor, 1 or 2 bales a year would do the trick. 8x8 is a lot of PDZ and I'm not sure what the advantage would be.

Ha!! That's the first thing I thought of when I saw your new tool. Maybe a toothed attachment?

That's pretty cool. I prefer the 2 screws into edge of 1x3, gets into corners and can adjust the depth by tilting-which is nice for mixing in additional fresh PDZ. Different strokes(literally) for different folks. How are you liking the PDZ on the coop floor?

    How are you 'scooping'?

Depends on how you 'scoop/sift'. ;) I like it thinner (<1/2") and sift it all on boards(~30sqft) instead of just scooping. Then they don't dust bathe in it(wasteful)....and keeps things cleaner overall long term.
