    Broody Hen?

Hard to know if she still tending them or actually broody again. I'd not put her in the breaker until you're sure.

    Broody Hen?

Some can go over and over...had one last year, broke her 7 times after she hatched in March and weaned at 4 weeks. She lay for a week or so then start that damn clucking again. When did she wean the chicks? Has she laid again yet?

    Broody Hen?

Nope no nest...just feed and water and a chunk of 2x4 to get feet off mesh. Chunk of 2x4 for a 'roost' was added to crate floor after pic was taken.

Stick her in the crate...she can lay in there if she needs to...BTDT.

So she stays on nest all day after laying?

    Broody Hen?

I'd wait until you're sure she's actually broody before crating. Some birds like to 'lounge' in the nests, before and after laying...especially if they are going into or out of lay. These are the signs I go by.... Is she on nest most the day and all night? When you pull her out of nest and put...

That's a pretty god video....find the follow up one that shows when she takes them out to eat.

Take good care installing it and it will function wonderfully, it's tedious but worth the effort, with tray above or below added mesh.

Those crates are the bomb, such a handy chickeneering tool... ...fit them out with 1x2 cage mesh on the bottom. I got mine at a flea market for about $15-20. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/foldable-wire-dog-crates-a-good-tool-for-every-chickeneer.72619/

No need to 'suspend' it......just put it up on blocks. I use a couple 4x4's.

    Broody Hen?

A new egg could be laid approximately every 25-26 hours, so an hour or so later every day until one is laid late in the day and another ova might not be released until the following day, so a day off. BUT..very hen is different and only time will tell what a particular hen/pullets schedule...

Selling mutt chicks is probably harder than breaking a broody. :D

    Broody Hen?

Sometimes it doesn't take much to break them...keep an eye on her tho. If they are all done laying for the day, might be good to block the nests.

Olive Eggers. I used Black Copper Marans male over Crested Cream Legbar females for chicks sexable at hatch.

    Broody Hen?

I got real lucky this year, the local mill guy sold them for me....but they were OE pullets. Can be hard to sell straight run mutts, depending on your location and seller savvy......best bet might a livestock swap.

Yep, I've never done it but have read of others doing so.

Spring hormones can run high.....but they can go broody any time of year.

    Broody Hen?

First figure out if she's really broody, these are the sign I use: Is she on nest most the day and all night? When you pull her out of nest and put her on the ground, does she flatten right back out into a fluffy screeching pancake? Does she walk around making a low...

    Broody Hen?

She should stay with it if it's still alive....and leave it if it's not. Should...no telling with live animals. Give it a couple more days and observe.

Until mama brings the hatched chicks off the nest to eat and drink.
