Ok now it's pretty much all done. For now at least. Other than adding a roost bar or some sort of other obstacles to keep them busy it's done. Did 6 ft of metal roofing and 10 ft of the PVC stuff to let a little more light in. So far they love it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I should of taken pics Sunday instead of Saturday. That chicken wire is now buried around the perimeter about 10 inches down. I'm not real worried about anything getting in there after my chicks. We haven't had any predator problems since we started keeping chickens about a year and a half ago...

Busy weekend. Tons of yard work and a new run addition for our newest group of chicks to get outside. While we free range our other 8 hens and 1 rooster we decided to keep our new ones penned up for awhile. At least until they are big enough to fend for themselves against our top dog rooster and...

Thanks for your reply. Against digging I have scrap metal roofing panels cut and buried around the perimeter. There wasn't enough left over metal roof for me to bother saving but the previous owner left it behind so I figured I would use it somehow. Figured it was just as good as using some kind...

Well I bought a new house that has a 12x16 shed that I don't have any use for. Decided the flock needed a new home too. Decided to give them12x12 of the shed leaving 4 ft on the one end for me and their supplies. Just framed out a simple wall and door. Also made the nest boxes accessible from...

Noticed my little ones aren't quite big enough to get up on the roost bar. So after finishing up all the wire on the run I chopped a few pieces of scrap up to make a mini roost bar/ step ladder for them. They are loving it. Jumping up and down it.

Thanks Bruce. Ya I know staple gun staples aren't the best to use but I hammered in a butt load of them to help that lol. Plus we are outside a lot. My wife stays home with our 3 boys and the coop and run is only about 30 ft away from the house. And my workshop/shed is only 8 ft to the right of...

Well it's moving day for the chicks! Decided I was tired of hearing them in the house and the dust they make was really making the room a mess lol. Temps are in the 70s during the day and 40-50 at night. I put the heat lamp in and have it turned on for night time as my youngest chicks(red sex...

I agree that the nipple waterers seem to be the best way to do it...I dont wanna have to clean water bowls out multiple times a day because I work to much for that and even though my wife is a stay at home mom she has 3 boys to deal with so having to constantly check the water bowls is too...

Thanks latestarter! I agree on the wire against the trees thing and predators. Was planning on using to trees for now just to get the girls outside at first. I plan to build a covered area over the run for the winter months. But I'm going to start that project later this summer. Spent enough...

We also love it very much. Our house and my workshop shed is board and batten and was also built by the Amish :). So it really matches the whole Amish theme we have going on here lol. We are in NY so we only see a few weeks of humid weather during the summer months. Having something that will...

Well our coop arrived this morning!! Very exciting for everyone. The fun started when I had to figure out how to move it about 12 ft over from where they dropped it off the trailer. There is a few trees in the way but they got it as close as possible with the trailer. My God is this thing...

Thanks all! I agree it's easier to replace the money than the time. Id much rather take my boys fishing or just sit on the back porch and play with toy cars with them. They will always remember dad playing with them vs dad being outside by muttering and cussing to himself trying to build a coop...

Thank you! It was originally $1600 but we talked the guy down to $1200 plus free delivery to our house that's 45 miles away. I had about $700-900 figured for materials if I had built one. So yes I spent a few hundred more but I also don't have to spend the time building one now. Which is worth...

Hello everyone. New here. New to raising chickens as well! My wife and I picked up 6 RIR chicks for our boys as a Easter present. After going just about crazy over what to do for a coop I said screw it and bought a really nice Amish made coop that gets delivered Friday! Can't wait and the kids...
