Thank you. I did clean out the clumps from the nestbox (one deformed stillborn kit) when I checked on her early this morning. She has fed them since then and all seems well. There are just some smears over on her resting mat.

So, my Apple had her second kindling overnight. Seven new cute squirmy kits. Yay! There is more blood around the cage this time. Not enough that I'm alarmed at the amount, but more visible over in the corner she hangs out. Is it worth stressing her by moving all to another cage while I do...

Thanks--they are munching hay and drinking water. I haven't seen them at the pellets yet, but was mostly just worried that she might quit since she seems so upset. I did actually remove the nestbox to another cage for the night to give her a break--as soon as I put it back this morning she...

Once the kits are out of the nestbox, how do they get fed by mama? Is it just what they scrounge from her, or does she still do a twice daily feeding. My doe seems just really annoyed with them mostly--she jumps all around until she's panting hard. It's been 5 days since they started leaving...

So this morning I found one of my 2 1/2 wk old kits dead. I don't see any obvious signs, so I'm wondering. Is it just most likely that it got crushed by mama? They were out of the nestbox.

@FoodFreedomNow I feed rolled oats, as that's what one of the breeders I purchased from recommended. Apple is now a total oat junkie--always begging for more! Good luck on the lilac!

Thanks! I should clarify that the alfalfa pellets are different than their rabbit ration pellets that both doe and kits have full feeders. I actually picked the straight alfalfa pellets up for my chooks during winter, so have just been using them as a bun treat since they're not balanced like...

They did make a successful move to the larger cage and seem to enjoy the space. Mama Apple is much more active, and the littlest bounce in and out. They are munching at the pellets and hay, which brings up a question. I've been treating mama with oats, boss, and sometimes some alfalfa pellets...

I did find all four out of their box last night as I checked them on my way to bed. So, I went to put them back in, and Mama objected--first aggression I've seen from her for me messing with the kits. But I distracted her with some oats and got them put back. Didn't see them out today, so...

She did kindle in the box, but toward the front. The four that didn't make it were all exposed, just on top of hay and by the discharge that's where she was. Two I'm pretty sure we're either stillborn or not viable, but I wonder about the other two--whether they just didn't wiggle the right...

So, I've been wondering and don't recall reading this in any of my pre-bunny research. I know mama doe doesn't hang out with the kits or move them as a cat would. So, are the newborn kits just on their own to get back into the nestbox where it's warmer? One of mine that didn't make it seemed...

So sorry to hear of this, but thank you all for sharing your knowledge. My kits are now 8 days old and just opening eyes and getting more active. What should I expect now? I have noticed that they like poking noses out of the furball they snuggle in and expect they'll be exploring more soon...

I'm discovering that the blue sf's are so darn cute! We went with blacks for 4H showing when the girls are old enough, but if I end up with one from a litter, it's going to be hard to not keep. There are a couple blues back in my pedigrees, but I don't know the odds of getting a blue kit.

Yikes! Brings to mind a question though when considering moving babies. I read about breeders stockpiling fur for when mama doesn't provide enough. Does it matter which bunny it comes from? Should I start saving the stuff from the brushes as we groom? How old can it be?
